G'day Kissa do you paddle a ski I've never paddled a ski I guess it would be fun. But I think it's more fun to Stand Up and paddle Downwind Wind gives you more of that Surfing Feeling. But each to there own as long as your having fun.
Downwinder, Dave's been known to paddle a ski a few times and probably the most modest guy you will ever meet. If you would like to know his background, have a read of this.
SUP is very fortunate to have someone of this caliber cross over to standup, Dave's ocean knowledge is immense and he will work tirelessly to promote and grown the sport. He's also one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet.

There is a SUP division did it last year in less than epic dw conditions. Not sure it was fun
I had heard Dave (Kissa) was a freak at ski and he has certainly taken to the SUP - the guy is a machine. Good read Rambo. And he is a proud member of SPSC

I see they have dropped the MR assuie day coastal challange next year as well. Also note there is a teams (2-3) event this year on any craft but need to have your own support/escort boat
I Hope to do the Doctor solo on the sup if the body holds up...

Dave will probably kill me for posting this
Hi rambooc1 Yes Dave is a legend I spoke with Dave about 4 weeks ago on Namotu Island if Dave's into ski's I'm stoked for him there is a lot of weapons that paddle ski's but they are not my cup of tea when it comes to Downwind fun like rambo your an OC1 fanatic you don't see me burning you I find a OC1 boring as if I had to paddle a OC1 it be in a OC6 canoe but then again I'd most probably paddle like Sally Robins

No Supports boats are required for the Finn Coastal Teams event as it's a land based changeover. You could probably do the Doctor race as a SUP Team, this would require your own support boat though and approval from Deano. Half the race - half the fun.
Must be a new Category, as quite a few of the SUPs found the full distance challenging last year especially if it's not quite direct downwind. I guess the SUpers must have asked for this. The results from last year don't show a Team and i can't recall any. Thanks for bringing it to notice Shunter.
This years race was pretty tough with not ideal dw conditions. The first couple of km's the wind was on the side heading towards the first marker. Once you round that the wind came in over the shoulder on about a 45 degree angle from behind. for about the next 12km. We then had to round a marker and headed further north which put what wind there was on the back up to the finish at sorrento. It was the first half of the race that was the toughest.
Yeah that first leg before the shipping buoy is not quite the right angle, even OC1 struggles to surf in that section. (except Travis of course ..haha)
Here is the video from that race for those that haven't see it, the SUP Start is fun 1k sprint.
