I guess part of my daily routine being that I work on a computer all day is to check Seabreeze along with other forums, Facebook etc. I admit that occasionally the more 'controversial' topics keep me amused to a point. My personal favourites though are technology, design and materials.

I have spoken to some past very regular contributors in the past week and moreover very involved types in Stand Up and they have made comment to me that they no longer visit Seabreeze or post as they find the negativity drains them. This would not be valid if it were from only one, but many people.

What do you say people give the negative crap a rest for a bit? Be respectful of others no matter what you do and you will not have dramas. It's that simple.

In the words of my personal hero Ford Fairlane these topics "Are like masturbating with a cheese grater; slightly amusing but mostly painful".

What say yee?

While it never hurts to encourage a positive outlook especially in our sport, I'm scanning the list of current topics on Seabreeze and don't really see too much negativity going around. There's one topic in which Legion and Doggie are up to their usual pranks, and another from Surfanimals that appears negative based on the title but really isn't.

So while I appreciate and encourage your premise, I would also encourage those who have walked away from the site to maybe give it another go, but this time perhaps they could approach it with a sense of optimism, expect to read positive threads, don't go looking for the negative. When you exude pessimism, even if only a little bit, then you become a crap magnet - you'll find plenty of reasons to continue to be pessimistic. Assume the best of people, and of this forum, and it won't let you down.

Thanks Woody, however I am also referring to SUP paddlers making derogatory comments towards SB, LB and other kinds of craft not just the other way around.

Just quit it! Like it or not we're all out there for the same reasons. Goatman referred to this in another post. Just look at your childs face when they catch their first waves to remember why we do this stuff.

Positive news stories......

I'm righting the wrong of selling my Naish 17' Glide by take possession of the last one left in Oz later today.

.....and with it, I'm also grabbing it's little flat water buddy 'Javelin'.

Positive ? Bloody oath - STOKED !

...I'll also so that the only guys that cause me grief are non SUP'rs.....so they should be banned from commenting IMO cause they spread a virus with every post.

Also.....to those who don't use GoPro's or Video's, they take hours on hours to put a small clip together. Basically an hour to an hour and a half for every minute you see as they require converting from MP4 to WAV / MP3 etc....I must admit, whilst my vids are boring, kooky or dull, the lack of comments does get me down as I wonder why I waste my time.....it's not about ego stroking but when you see 300 views and 1 comment, I'll admit it has bred negativity in me.

That's all. Have a positive Friday all.

Someone doesn't.

You all just want to sit around in a circle singing kumbaya. In the real world, people often have differences of opinion.

I understand there are a whole lot of you that want me banned. The private message complaints to Laurie make that clear. If you want to go down the complaining path, I've got a whole list of people I could also complain about that contravene the forum guidelines way worse than I ever have. Luckily for you, I'm not quite so soft that I whinge and cry when the mean SUPGers bully and tease me. But I could ...

Hey, I'm a newb at this, but may I say, I feel really happy and surprised that there is such a vibrant and passionate forum that we can share our collective water experiences on. Sure there will always be a bit of rivalry, but I think it's all in good jest.

I am just so grateful that I have discovered something that I enjoy, meet heaps of great people, get fit, and share with others. I don't take any of it too seriously.

It's all good, people!

Ha ha really, private message complaints.

Big difference between a 'differences of opinion' and systematically trying to sabotage every post.

Hey Legion, what's 'the real world' ?

Let me tell you that my 'real world' is definately very real and SUP is an escape from it - not a bull ring for more crap.

Unless you're living in the desert over there with a teepee and eating witchety grubs, give it a rest and go back to the forum that best suits you which evidentially isn't here with 'the real' people.....or should that be realistic people ?

Nah not a shaper, missed my opportunity of an apprenticeship at 15 as my parents refused. Tried to bribe my way back in after Uni to which my mentor at that time said he would never teach anyone with a brain again to shape as they become your competitor and take your business. I ended up as his business manager making him money.

Despite all of that I still work with shapers for a job and have done a few boards but nothing serious, just for fun. I'd like to do some more but $$ to waste on boards that work 1/2 as well as my friends make for me are hard to come by.

Yeah, there aren't many who I'm envious of. A tough road to take, and one that offers less water time than some might think (at least if you want to make money). Particularly difficult in the last decade. Still, there are a few out there who've carved themselves a nice niche. E.g. Greg Griffin would be up there, given his location.

OK, its Friday. I'll way in....
This has actually been going on for a long time now. Think back a year, even two. There are a lot of crew that have just drifted away.....

I think Oliver stared a thread last year and asked where the old regulars had gone? He listed at least 10 regular, positive contributors who had just disappeared.

Over the years I have spoken to a few of them and they all comment on the general level of negativity that has crept into the forum. And it does seem to consistently come from certain quarters who do not necessarily have the best interests sport at heart.

Sure everyone has opinions and the forum IS the place to air them, but when the 'opinions' constantly undermine the quality of the forum by dragging the level of conversation down to back seat squabbling, I would take action not words and zap the trolls before more people to leave.

I dont think its the negative stuff , i think most are bit thicked skinned for that to be a real problemo. I think its just become quite boring.Manufacturers no longer post , board builders dont post , any one who has industry ties dont post. For fear of being branded.I for one enjoyed reading about how good their boards are , what they thought of them ect ect. Its the high and mighty who get on and accuse every one pimping , every time they post about a board or brand they like.

Thats my 2 bob for the day.
