Hey Guys & Girls, we are seeing a few contests where the same board has to be used for flat water & then for surf. Just after a few thoughts (if you were going to build one) as to the best Dimensions & design for such a board ...........

Good question. Makes you think. Everybody being different, I reckon you will get as many different answers as posts. For me personally I think something like the PSH 10'6 or Naish 10'6 would do the trick.

I would think something around the 10' x 29" size? But.......... the way everyone talks up the PSH 12ft gun why would you have any other board? Apparently it rips in 1ft to huge size waves and would do the job for racing? Personally its one board I wouldn't consider buying, I can't get my head around 12ft of board being fun?

I thought the same and it is a handful to lug around but the performance is there.

Suggest you ride as many boards as possible until you get a clearer idea. The rocker is really really really important.

My vote goes to the PSH 10 6 allrounder. Board rips off the tail and noserides great. Also big enough to do long flat water paddles.

10'5 x 30 Starboard - tough, good value, great resale and flat water paddles and surfs well. Put it on the demo list for sure IMO.

If I go in one of these events thats the board i'd use because I own one and for the other reasons you mention. It is a lot of fun and doesn't feel like 12' and no one believes it is 12'. However I wouldn't say it rips in small surf. You can certainly ride it in small surf but it is a big board and it prefers a bit of power in the waves. Also steep beach break surf would be a challange with it. I've been riding it in rolling point waves and it's an absolute blast.

Hey Cam,

Demo a 12ft PSH gun take out the crap fins that are supplied with it an put in some M5s or M7s with a finbox adapter take it for a spin and then see what you think. Then if you thinks its crap say its crap

It doent surf like 12ft its way more agile than the 10'6PSHWAA, you can bust helicopters on it and it will go vertical if you give it the right motivation.

Maybe its just a big unit board???????

It paddles fast in flat water no idea on Down Winders I have not done one!

For me @ 55yo, 183cm and 85 kegs plus with wet rubber for winter the 10 6 Oxbow is great. It really performs in solid surf with thin rails for such a board, great semi gun plan shape, good rocker and enough Vee or dome in the bottom to tip the rider off or get you on a rail, bite and fly!

Hey Skeg, I bought a 10 foot Oxbox for my wife and I agree, surfs great, paddles unreal, has thinner rails than my 9 3 ripper but pretty stable still.

i would have around a 10footer something loose in the surf but stll long enough to paddle long distance, i actually perfer the surfing side of SUP so i would rather be able to surf better then paddle better actually i take it back i say an 8'8" surfs great bugger the paddling!

11'6" x 30".. something like the Naish 11'6" AST..

Great for flat water cruising.. down-winders.. and even catching some waves.. It's what I call an allrounder.
