Awesome.. I love catching the bumps from the prawn trawlers coming back in to the river mouth around my local area but that just looks endless if you can stay on

Growing up holidaying at Wentworth (NSW) on the Murray & Darling Rivers, we spent many a time paddling out on old lilos being pushed along by the paddle-steamers. I even had a crack at jumping a few once whilst water skiing, but it didn't last long when the speedboat I was being towed behind nearly came to grief (boat nearly flipped, the observer was thrown out) due to operator error (told him about it!). A DW board would be amazing!

sure do...probably have to take you're own roof racks to bolt onto the top of the steamer for the 14 footer..

I wonder if it's just the sternwheelers that throw up these wake waves or whether the ones with the paddle wheels on the sides are also surf-able. I think the Murray River steamboats are mostly side-wheelers.

^^^ Correct, most have the side paddles, which aren't much good to ride. I think that there is a sternwheeler operating around some parts of the Murray River though? We used to sit at our camp site on the Darling River (Wentworth) and spot the big girl through a small gap between the 2 rivers - then frantically paddle our lilos across and through the opening to the Murray.

edit - Mannum SA looks like the place to find one of these rides nowadays.
