Just thought I'd check out the shortboard surfing forum and bugger me! there's not a lot going on over there. So I thought I'd OK it with everybody here on the Stand up forum first so there's no objections. Anyway, seeing there's only 3 guys on the shortboard forum and the last post was in January, how about we extend the hand of surfing freindship and just turn the two forums into one. At least the poor buggers will have someone to talk to and they can still talk to each other about that laying down on the surfboard thing that they seem to enjoy. The only thing is, does this sound too patronising? . We could even change the name of the forum to " STAND UP PADDLE SURFING ...and others ", just to make them feel welcome. What do we think? log

Why bother...Doggie & Legion are already here on this forum. The third one probably switched to SUP or gave up on the shortie forum due to boredom

Must be a patronising joke for sure.

I paddlesurf/SUP & enjoy it - but I would never stop riding my little 6ft surfboards - way too much fun!

I reckon if you used to surf surfboards but have given up because of SUP then you are the one missing out mate

What i prefer about riding 6ft surfboards is that they fit better in the waves and they go vert with ease ( think - square bottom turn, & past 90deg back up the face ) - SUPS on the other hand are more restricted to running down the line & doing repetitive snaps- I know I am generalising a bit - but come on, lets get real on the ninnie-ternet..

A SUP is a SUP & never will perform the same as a short sufboard & it's quite funny reading all these forum guys claiming their SUP is just like a short surfboard - can i have some of what you're smoking hilarious!!!

both disciplines are fun ways to ride waves & every board has it's limitations.

totally agree except for one part. most are saying their sup has a shortboard "look" and feel, but i don't think most are claiming their sups match their shortboards in pure performance. that would be silly
cheers

Exactly! By using characteristics of the highest performance boards available it has allowed Sup to get to where it is today.

Sup will never perform as well as Sb in general but in certain conditions I know myself that I ride these waves better on Sup than I can on Sb. That's the whole beauty of doing both. Maximisation of available time.

Completely agree that SB riders that have given it up for Sup completely really just need a couple of good surfs again on SB in good uncrowded waves on a good correct volume board not the toothpicks that lead to the frustration of complete abandoment and they would be back. At least when the waves better suited it.

IMO with my level of ability on a SB you ride the wave as you like or have the ability to, on Sup much of the time you ride the board as it allows you to. Of course this depends on ability also.

Can't argue there CMC, I mite sup if I lived closer to the beach, ATM if I had more time at the beach and the swell was small I would prob longboard before I would sup given that the conditions here would suit IMO them better.

No just saying that if I had more time and the conditions suited I might do that but at the moment Im happy doing what I do.

Shortboards are good.

Yeah doggie, I'm just jealous. I wished I started surfing 30 years ago so I had the experience of being able to actually ride a shortboard. The good thing about SUP is now I'm going down in board length instead of increasing board length like I was when I was riding mini mals and mals. Old age is a ****....****...*********...*******...**
