It was a top morning. You looked pretty comfortable on that board.
When you said our boards hit, when we were in the white water, they must have, as I lost some fiberglass near the nose - my board is back in Oke getting repaired.
Here's a few pics from today, first up Oliver taking the drop, and setting up for the bottom turn
DJ on the new Naish. The new design Balin leggie looks to be working well. Oliver's board going for a free surf Fireman Dave on the C4. Dave's brother John. Cheers guy's ,great way to spend the morning, Camo.
Really interested to know if its thick? It says 210L which I still think is a mistake but no one at Naish seems to have picked it up as they say the 11ft 4 is 180L??? How would it compare with the Whopper for thickness? Could you please take some more personal pics of its bits and its figure?? Cheers
Unless its the camera angle the volume in the nose, mid point and rails of the Mana appears to be quite significant.
At 32 wide with that sort of volume and plan shape it could easily be 210 L
That would make it approx 40l or 23% more volume than the 12ft Voldomort Gun in a 10 ft board.
If DJ is 85 ish kg this means the mass to volume ratio is 2.47
If DJ is 90 ish kg this means the mass to volume ratio is 2.33
With those ratios if the bottom shape is good it should be as stable as the rock of Gibralta

G'Day BP, using the Panasonic Lumix. The blurry spots on the pics are probably water droplets on the lens but it does a good enough job for what I'm after, Camo.
The deck grip is nice and soft and not too thick.. also it's slightly off white.. almost a light grey colour.. and it should never come un-stuck..
The fines are a quality glass fin with wood inside.. and also a pretty small center fin compared to what I'm used to.. Great for The Pines with the shallow water.
The tail is pretty wide and must have something to do with why it's so stable.
The hand hole was nice and deep and pretty grippy inside.
I didn't get any good shots of the rails but I was pleasantly surprised to see they were not big and boxy.. There also seems like plenty of rocker.
I'm not sure what the idea is with having two leach plugs.. Some say it's to do with one for goofy and one for natural.. Some say it's for big waves and you run the leggie through both.. and some say it's so you have a spare incase you rip one out?
It was time to put the camera away.. Get the wettie on and get the board wet..
When Robby Naish told me that there was a new 10' board coming that is even more stable than my big 11'6" AST I thought to myself.. yeah right.
Well.. when I first stood up on my new 10' Naish Mana I could see that he was right.. I'm not sure if it's the extra width or the wide nose and square tail.. or even the lower center of gravity because the board feels quite thin.. but then anything would feel thin compared to the big 11'6" AST.
Once standing I though jeez.. I think it would be impossible to fall off this thing.. It felt great.. I paddled out and about half way out I spotted a good size way that no one had caught and it was headed my way.. I turned to catch it and with just one stroke of the paddle I was around.. (My old 11'4" would have taken 3 or 4 strokes to turn it around).
I caught the wave with almost no board speed and it took off.. I put pressure on my heel and it turned left.. Wow.. I thought this board feels loose.. I was turning left and right with just the slightest foot pressure.. and no need to move my rear foot from rail to rail like I thought I would have to.
The other nice thing is that the board turns so well from forward up on the board.. When stepping back the board just got looser.. This is something that the 11' PSH board would not do last week.. It also didn't nose dive once.. again not like the PSH.
I paddled out 'up and over' white water better than I have ever done before.. This must be that 32" width working along with the wide nose.. I would not call this board a high performance board but for someone coming from a big board like the 11' boards and bigger but want to ride waves better without giving up any stability this board would be perfect.
Hey Cammo I've got the same camera, I find the auto focus a bugger. How do you take it out on the water with you?
Pete
G'Day Pete, with the auto focus I find you need to have it set on wide angle first and then zoom in but I'm far from a camera expert and this seems to keep the focus clearer, I just stuff the camera down the front of my wettie from the neck and push it across to the top of my arm, don't even notice its there.
Id also been keen to hear how this board stacks up against the whopper. Any chance of a comparitive review, Homeally.?
Yeah sure.... I believe the 10fter is out on demo so i might have to wait... haha... been pretty popular i think.... tried the 9'6'' fanatic today to see if it floated me (yeah... im a fat bastad...) and well it did... sort of... just couldnt really paddle it... board was just breaking the surface... similar to the starboard 9'8'' element... so i think the fanatic also has a 141L volume or there abouts... will be interesting to try the 10fter when it comes in... Im super keen to try the 9'5 as well but will have to wait til they put one of these on demo... will let you know how it goes...
That bag looks as good as the custom one I got from stonker that cost me $200.00. Getting a bag thrown in is definitely a bonus. I'll have to have a close look at it - surely it's not as good.
