Forget about the double ended paddle JB, i'm liking the funky guys & girls swimwear! LOL Which reminds me, i think we still have got your Buggie smugglers from way back somewhere in the garage .
When I was a kid every family had a 12' plywood paddle board (circa 1961-1970). We used to go to Rosebud for 6 weeks over the Xmas holidays and spend all day leaping off it and paddling around and having water wars and stuff. It had genuine garden hose foot straps and a big brass drain hole at one end. We had a wheelie trailer to drag it down to the beach. My dad made ours but my cousins had a genuine banana board with the big swept up nose.
My brother would paddle out to the reefs and anchor it while he did his bit to help in the annihilation of all fish life in the bay.
When we got a little older we would go down to Wilson's Prom for a couple of weeks and try and catch waves. The paddle board would always purl and dump us on our heads.
The country cousins had a genuine George Rice mal and we used to have goes on it.
All during my windsurfing time I used to think that it would be fun to go for a paddle. I kept imagining different seat and foot strap systems hooked into the mast track. It never occurred to me to just stand up and paddle it. There goes another of my great inventions that didn't quite make it.
Gorgo, you brought back some good memories. I guess the boards we have now are just modern versions of the same thing. I'm thinking the ULI board is going to be just perfect for family fun at the beach. We are heading off this w/e down the coast - hope it's not too windy.
