....when the gfc hit it hit hard. private sector building pretty much ground to a halt. personally i would be lucky to work 8 months or so in the year atm. had to sell my property and thought , well have to sit out for 18 months, been through the boom/bust cycle plenty of times- 6 years later!!!!. ....

I don't know what's been happening in Queensland but in Melbourne building has been going nuts. Every old house within 5km of my place has been bought at around $1.4m a pop, knocked down and younger families are building their dream homes. At each site you see mum and dad in their 30's with a couple of sprogs, a German sedan or wagon for mumsy and a big Japanese crew cab 4wd for dad.

There's cranes going outside every window at work and the cafes and car parks are full of tradies in khaki and hi-vis yellow.

At the moment it looks like Clive Palmer will be the member of parliament for the electorate of Fairfax, where I live. WTF!!!!!!!!!
For years we have had an LNP government that did nothing, that was good in some ways. Now we have a maniac.
I think I will pack up and move.
Trouble is where do you go?
Not happy.

There is probably room for you here in giz if you are reasonably polite and enjoy watching other people catch waves that you could have caught but didn't

yep lacey being an X concreter and mates that work in the building game all say the same, But mate try telling that line to somebody that worked
for queensland health since the LNP got in.

weiry im' getting red thumbed by testy labour people.when the gfc hit it hit hard. private sector building pretty much ground to a halt. personally i would be lucky to work 8 months or so in the year atm. had to sell my property and thought , well have to sit out for 18 months, been through the boom/bust cycle plenty of times- 6 years later!!!!. thousands and thousands of trademans and contractors are in the same boat, particularly se qld/gold coast. but be cause we aren't on a payroll as such we are the forgotten. guys doing all sorts of stuff for a lot less then they are entitled too- where are the labour values in that!!!. hundred of contractors getting screwed to give ridiculous prices and going broke. i even know of a korean tiling outfit with cheap imported labour going bust.

the stimulus package didn't include the private sector very much. nothing has been said much about the building game and as far as i'm concerned labour have done jack about it in 6 years. not even sure they know - no hardcore statistics maybe .

great numbers of tradies doing tough of a long time

if anyone thinks i was voting for another three years of that you have rocks in your head- red thumbs and all.

at the end of the day we just want to work

cheers

Come on lacey you know you don't mean it!
The less you work, the more you train, the longer you keep your board, the more you get used to it....and simply the better you paddle

haha, alain lets just say i good very good on a surfing sup very quickly 4years ago. hard not to with all that free time- surfing twice a day at my names sake

You guys are really serious about pinning your local economic woes on local or even national government policy? Wow. No wonder Labor lost so heavily.

Legion,
That is an unusual statement considering that the economy is the responsibility of the federal government.
If not their responsibility then whose would it be?

Doesn't Australia have one of the best economies in the world right now?

I don't think anyone can blame the government for a relatively bad economy when if you look at the bigger picture Australia could be in allot worse a situation right now.

from my very limited understanding that is.

Australia's economy did very well over the last half decade compared to Europe, the U.S., lots of Asia. But Labor forgot to remind anyone and the Liberals managed to convince everyone we're really badly off. As it was we were one of very few first world countries not to experience a long recession. External factors had a lot more to do with it than government policy (at any local or national level) but we have been super lucky and well off.

If you reckon things are bad where you are, google Detroit or California or France or Spain or Italy or Greece or Turkey or Japan or ...

Hey ET, it's OK we all know now you're a tree hugging, surf loving, hemp endorsing, politically correct lover of Naturopaths and that Lacey is a technology addicted, surf loving, I hunt I vote, expecting a free ride, right wing Redneck!!! The election's over!!!!!!!!! We are all surf loving!!!!! That's what this forum is about isn't it? I should know better than to get involved, but if you want to continue this thread why don't you all go to the General Discussion Forum? As far as I'm concerned politicians are all tarred with the same brush. You pay peanuts you get monkeys, You lie down with dogs you get fleas, oh hang on that doesn't make sense. Let's face it everybody has different opinions on politics, is a SUP forum the best place to continue this thread? Which reminds me, How long is a piece of string?. I wish I could've stopped myself from checking this thread, but I just had to say it's continuation is pointless now, although valid five days ago.. Write a letter to your local member, (and I use that word advisedly.) or take it to the Longboarder forum so that TA reads it!! BTW I'm all of the above descriptions, dependant on how I feel in the morning. This is meant to be a satirical comment not a statement of fact!!!! ( much)

Lets get one thing very clear Leroy.
I am not coming down there to sit naked in the lotus position with you or any one else.
If I do come down, it will be to be shown all of your perfect secret SUP spots. That can be know only to locals.
Now Lacey might conjure up a different position and I am sure he will give you a good run for your money in any of the situations you have conjured up.
I want nothing to do with Jack Daniels and his Remington Magnum., from what I hear he also plays the Banjo and lives by a river and hunts pigs.

YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAR Boy.. You're most welcome to know any of my secret surf spots, as are you to come to Sunny Victoria..Ski/ Snowboard in the morning and surf in the arvy. The Downwind capital of Australia. Flame suit firmly adjusted along with breathing apparatus. I can't Downwind to save myself, but the Sandy/ Black Rock crew will give anyone a run for their money!! DJ is the very high (tall as well) bench mark!! Also the home of the Ripcurl Bell's Beach Classic, Ripcurl and Quicksilver. The Torquay Surfing Museum is amazing as well. Mr Lacey is also more than welcome to share the stoke and I'm sure DJ and he would get on famously
