I realised recently that the watersports I currently can do require a decent amount of wind. At the shack I mainly windsurf but inevitably the wind is not always up to scratch. I have been trying to learn windsurfing for 2 years now on a less than adequate board and as such was thinking of purchasing a board which I can use both for SUP and windsurfing. I realise this is not a cheap sport (I have discovered this first hand with windsurfing) but I was wondering if anyone had some cheap options. I am very pressed for money and am really just doing some initial research.
Also out of interest what is the cheapest SUP board i can buy (not windsurfing)?
I am 78kg and nearly 6 foot 5.
I realise this is broad but I don't really know where to start or the best way of going about this.

No,just a reality I live with when the waves are under two feet...there are other craft as well since Santa always seems to deliver presents to the biggest kooks going...blah blah blah

Well you are excused then.

I have an old Chinese saying that was handed down to me by an old Cronulla local,
KOOKS is KOOKS is KOOKS is KOOKS and they will always be KOOKS.

Cheers

Mmayer...to answer your question or at least part of it...you will probably pick up an old Naish that
can be used for both and at the most affordable price. I'm talking like 4 or 5 years old.

The cheapest/best value for money boards are probably Sunny King although they don't come
with the insert for the mast base. So will be SUP only.

You can get the Fanatic Fly 11'6 with an optional dagger board insert and two mast insert positions. I just took ownership of one about three weeks ago. I plan on trying windsurfing after I have: 1) the money and 2) a lot of experience/ability on the board. As for how it handles for windsurfing, I obviously cannot say, although I am told it windsurfs very well. As a SUP, it is excellent and I am enjoying learning on it a great deal. I am 6'4 but 115kg, and this board is incredibly stable in choppy water. Unfortunately you won't find any used cheaper options of this board in Australia, they don't seem to be around second-hand.

Quite a few SUPs have mast inserts that you can windsurf with if you want to get a cheaper board that can be used as a SUP and a windsurfer. There are a lot more people on here with a butt-load more experience than me that can point you in the right direction. I just thought I would add in what I have as one of the reasons I got it was the added stability for windsurfing with the centre fin option.
