The topless board bag.. Now that's new..

'The shower cap' .. is what I would call them..

It is an interesting new board bag design though.

Seems pretty pointless.
I thought the concept of the board bag was to protect the board .... the whole board

IMO 99% of the board bags protection if for the rails.. and the bottom of the board.

It's pretty cool to be able to still use the hand-hole in the board.

With a lot of carbon boards with minimal paint, the biggest danger is direct sunlight leading to delamination. Many bags end up being heavy and impossible to roll up and store in the car. I think this is a good idea. Perhaps not quite the greatest innovation since the leg rope, but still.

Straight off the ironing board - bet it works well at 110 clicks on the highway

It would:
- give some small protection to the rails.
- give some small protection of the car paint from bumps from the board.
- give some UV/sun protection.
- be easy to slip it on the board once you had it on the roof of the car.

It would not:
- stop salt water dripping onto the car.
- protect the car or the board from harder knocks.
- give you some extra space to slip in the paddle

The topless board bag was invented for surfboards 8 feet and bigger and SUP boards. For surfers who DON'T use a board cover TO and FROM the beach. Slips on in ten seconds and gives a surfer a simple slip on cover while hanging out at the beach or the drive home without bag hassles. Surfer who use a travel bag and want to eliminate the wax and sand inside bag puts this cover on the wax side of board then the board slides in with ease NO MORE WAX inside travel bag. Made of 4 way stretch material (not sock material) and stretches up to 1.5 feet. Keeps boards over 23 degrees cooler versus uncovered boards. All those boards you see with nothing on them?

Agreed, I would be a bit concerned about that.

I make a cover like that for my formula board a couple of years ago. My thinking was just to use it a a slip on sun cover when the board was on the beach but I did use it while the board was on the roof as well. No issues at up to 110 unless there was another board on top and the eddies off it lifted the back off. Worked to design specs other than that

It takes me probably 60 seconds to put my cover on my SUP, the free silver one that came with my Coreban. And when folded up takes up no room at all.
It has some (although minimal) padding that offers protection and probably keeps the board even more than 23 degrees cooler.

I could see them being beneficial for race boards.

I agree.. Race board covers take up so much space in the back of the car and are a pain o fold up..

These ironing board/shower cap covers migh also be good for stacking boards on top of each other on the roof and stop them rubbing.

The material looks much better than the old stretchy terry-toweling sock covers from the old days.

Used to use covers like these on my Opti/Byte/Laser/Laser2/Taser and every other dinghy I've sailed.

Yes I grew up in North America and no there weren't any cool dinghy's when I was a kid
