I'm trying to buy a cheap new or second hand 12'6 sup/race fin. Can anyone suggest a company or has got one for sale.
(I would like a race fin that's ok in the surf).

If you want cheap, try hunting around for an old windsurfing race fin. You'll be ok with a Hatchet Style Longboard fin too. Or a 9" dolphin fin....

Also keep in mind that the fin quality equates to the final 1% of race speed (or less). The paddler's strength, technique, training, preparation, endurance, ability, ocean knowledge, the paddle quality, and the board, all far outweigh the fin.

Simondo, I have found that that's only true when I race well and achieve a good result. When I get my arse handed to me by other paddlers, it's definitely because of the fin.

I've got the strength, technique, training, preparation, endurance, ability, ocean knowledge, the paddle quality, and the board now looking for that 1%!!!!!!!!
Only joking!
My fin is an 6' mal fin which feels slow in flat water and lose in the surf.

I'll ask Woogie if you like and see what he thinks?

I would recommend something like an 9"-10" dolphin shaped fin.

There's a guy in Torquay that will make one for you and send it to you for about $80 but it might take a while.. He calls them 'Glide' fins.. Jonathan also had one in his SurfRace.

I use one in my 14' Glide and my 14' Javelin.. The dolphin shape allows you to drag it in shallow water when most race type fins (dagger style) tend to dig in and catch when they touch.

Forget about Johnny (Glide Fins). Yes, he makes nice fins, yes he is local. But his supply capacity is right next to useless, even for 1 fin !!

For quality fins, try True Ames in California. They have a great range, all in stock, and available now. Same price, or cheaper if you can order 2 or 3 or some thruster sets.... Takes about 10 days.

9-10" range, USD$55 to USD$60 plus postage of about USD$25.
