You guys have missed the point with Kelly's small boards. They're not really small boards despite the length.
Take your 6'8 gun and chop the nose of it and reshape it to a point. The tail and rocker is the same as the longer board it just has the nose missing.
That's why Kelly can try to ride these small things in bigger waves. Watch the videos though, he looks like he is struggling for drive and control. If Kelly can't make it work it is not able to be made to work......
yeah, understand, but when you really need to press the board down to take of on a big'n, the nose isn't going to be there.
i read something a while ago where the other pro's weren't really worried about what kelly was doing because he is such a one off.
if some of the other pro were doing it they would have looked into it.
one thing i wont forget was when julian wilson beat kelly in a heat in crappy surf in a quick pro. the board just didn't work at all for kelly and wilson flogged him
