Congratulations Melbourintes. Surf at your door step. The new set up looks amazing. A real shame they could not get the one in Perth up and running.
Waves look amazing - can't wait to see what it looks like when they turn the dial up to 2m waves....I'm getting feedback from the surfers who are testing it out....awesome is the answer.
Big questions is.....will they let SUP's in to share all the fun? SUP-only sessions?

Every theiving mining, oil and gas operation around the country should be made to pay to put one of these in their camps and or the local communitys as standard!!

I'm just going to add to this by saying that Snowdonia was a bit of a ballache on a SUP. They let you SUP whenever, mixed in with regular surfers. But the chop between waves and whilst paddling into waves was next level as it is coming from all directions, rather than just one direction. Maybe the Cove at Melbourne and Bristol will be different due to the different shape of the pool, but I'd reckon SUP sessions could get pretty messy if everyone's queuing up for the more advanced wave, based on the footage of Bristol so far. Looks a fun wave once you're on it though.

I guess it depends more on the price they charge: a high number of waves per minute is what creates a lot of chop... but also allow to get more revenue per hour.

Maybe the solution would be "premium" hours with a reduced wave per minute count, like they do already for filming their promo videos, or organizing VIP sessions...
Or having pauses to let the water surface flatten, and charge more for the first waves of a new "set" before the backwash builds...
Or just design "wave shock absorbers" pool edges, a bit like the "egg boxes" used in sound studios to limit the reverb of sound waves.

Snowdonia run one wave every 90 seconds and it was still choppy as a lot of the time. The wave face itself was fine though. They try to damp the chop by draining the water at the edges of the pool but it's essentially still a large swimming pool with reverb from all sides so it wedges all over the place after the wave has passed which is hard work on a SUP although fairly imperceptible on a surfboard. Interestingly the Cove is running waves in very short period sets - makes more economic sense of course - and starting in a very narrow take-off area as well so I figure the chop may be more short-lived but a lot worse whilst it's there. Just my guess though from having surfed Snowdonia and watched the Bristol videos.

Unless you're a total gun then there's an element of faffing around whilst waiting for the waves on a SUP - it's hard just to hold your exact position when waiting in chop on a performance board. And with Cove the waves look to be coming thick and fast with waiting surfers packed into a narrow, wedgy area. I can't see how that is going to end well for SUPs a lot of the time personally but until someone tries it I guess we won't know. As you say, maybe they will reduce the number of participants per session to allow more space in the line-up - but then they'd need to increase the cost of course.

This is the first waves surfed in Bristol, but the tech is identical to Tullamarine from what I understand -
