I was approached yesterday by another surf club that uses Currumbin Alley regarding the use of Thundercats, Jet Skis, Tinnies etc in the break. There is a talk of mounting a submission to Gold Coast City Council regarding their use there. There is no way in hell that I am appointing myself as spokeperson for SUP'ers on the Gold Coast, so if you have thoughts and feelings on the matter I will let you know when the public meeting is.
As a side issue, at least we weren't mentioned as serial pests rather was mentioned that the fact that since we have moved to wide bank, relations have really chilled out.

Chris, can you keep me informed of this. SEQ Wavesailing may certainly be interested in joining any submission.

My main question will be around how it is worded to differentiate between craft using the estuary as a launch point to the ocean vs craft playing in the surf area and potentially endangering swimmers and other water users.

The rules surrounding how close you are allowed to flagged areas and the proximity of two such areas in summer (in the Alley and at Laceys) I would have almost thought this could have and would have been stopped by the Lifeguards already.

G'Day JustWrong,
I reckon its a good thing others now consider you an organised body and worth getting in contact with if there's any issues in your local area.A short time ago this wouldn't of been the case anywhere in Aus.Thats why IMO anyway, joining the local SUP club is a good thing for the sports future.
Can see you dont want to be responsible for all sup'ers on the Gold Coast though, and thats fair enough,
Goodluck,
Camo.

Need to be careful if you enjoy sailboarding at the Alley. If you protest the boats/jetskis using the area a smart petrol head might just protest the use of sailboards in the area as well. You don't want that I'm guessing. I'm not sure of the laws up there but I'm assuming they are similar to Vic.

Sorry cris'o i put the guy on to you. I don't think banning anything in there is the right way to go about it education is the key here and that's what need to be pushed if anything. Besides a few dicks jumping waves out in the surf i very really see to many people doing the wrong thing in there. Its more likely to open a whole can of worms if anything. i know that from meeting with top guys about tow surfing and how hard it is to get things changed that we don't want to start sticking our heads in to something that it does not need to be in.( not sure if that makes sense)

yep, the wide bank has been good for all.i've been buzzed a fair few times down toward the towers. i think the rules in place are enough, they just aren't being enforced. i'm wondering if the lifeguards are able to take rego's and report them? they are in a good position to be able to do so!
cheers

If there are laws in place and they are not being enforced I think the next step is just to ban them from the area. No big deal - plenty of other places for them to go.

I'm glad they've been banned from places like Western Port bay and Byron Bay. I think some places should be reserved for the exclusive use of human powered vessels.

Some news on JetSki ban on Noosa river -

The Noosa River will soon become a whole lot quieter and calmer following the Queensland Government's announcement that it has been gazetted a Marine Zone.

The Noosa River Marine Zone limits all commercial and recreational jet-ski activities—excluding emergency services—to the area of the river downstream of the Noosa Waters canal entrance at Noosaville to the river mouth.

All jet-ski activities will be prohibited on the remainder of the river.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for banning anything completely. However I would like to see some regulations enforced that ensure guys are flying past swimmers, surfers and any other non-motorized craft users at full blat are dealt with in some way.

Inforcing the laws will do nothing.... the laws need to be enforced.

At a section of St Kilda beach they've baned swimmers so the jet-ski'ers can roar about worrying about running someone over.... Weird indeed..

It's cool Jacko, if there is going be a meeting then reckon it should be a few people with strong interests, not just me. As for sticking noses into something that doesn't need fixing .... exactly right.
