Can you use a longboard for SUP, or are they just not quite long and thick enough for someone weighing around 82-84kgs?

Other than size, what else is different between a longboard and a supboard

Hi NR,

Other than size the difference between a longboard and a SUPboard are in the shape (volume repartition, rails, tail...) and the construction, a SUP board needs to be much stronger than a longboard, with no reinforcements the board would delaminate under your feet (when you paddle you are always standing at the same spot on the deck) and the rails will suffer when you hit them with the paddle (it doesn't happen too often, but it happens)

I hope that's help you
see you in the water,
eric

There is a big difference between longboards and SUP boards. Rocker and out line are radically different. A big longboard will work, but you will not get the performance of a specific SUP board. A proper SUP board will paddle faster, turn harder, and be more stable than any big longboard. Compared to a SUP board, a large Longboard will feel dull and lifeless. I definately recommend getting the real deal. I have come to the conclusion (after riding the Naish 11'6") that thickness has very little to do with performance when it comes to SUP surfing (in beginner to intermediate boards), Outline and rocker are far more important for a good performing board. I still stand by the Naish 11'6" as the best all round performing board I have tried to date. I am trying to ride as many SUP boards as possible to try and get the best idea of what works and what doesn't!

My advise is to not ride a big mal and struggle, demo some SUP boards, find what works for you, and get the proper board, you won't regret it.

Regards,

JB
