Hey Windy, sounds like a sweet trip. We did something similar in 87 and had great waves at Catus, Streaky Bay and Eliston (Blacks). All of these would be great SUP waves - although Blacks is very local and very shallow. Steaky Bay is a must do - awesome waves, brilliant fishing and rugged coastline. Here is a shot of a place in the region called 'indicators' that we surfed - bloody amazing wave - but maybe not so good on a SUP (close to rocks). The inside break would be fun though.

Yeah Windy,
Heaps of spots but recommend you tread carefully at Cactus. Plenty of other good spots with less agro.

Definately, heaps of stoner blowins who think they own the place, but still worth a stop and an early at one the breaks.

Might see you on the way over Windy. Sold the house and moving East about the 20th June. I plan a similar trip. Let the forward scout hare ahead with the furniture while I bring up the van. If you see a white hiace ( dove) camper van with an 11'2" inside drop in for a sup.

It's actually right out the very tip of Steaky Bay, gets all the swell and sucks like mad. Mind you it's 22 years ago now so memory is a little hazy.

In two minds whether to make the trip longer by going south first. The Leader of the Opposition and I did a 3 month tour about 2 years back and travelled via Albany, Esperance etc. We are headed for NSW so I probably will take the short cut near Port Augusta and head straight over then drop into spots on the way up the NSW coast. Will be looking out for some flat water spots as well in the river systems. Bon Voyage Windy. Might catch you at cactus. If I see a lone WA vehicle under siege there I will know it's you.

Went to Cactus with my brother & a mate in January '73. Bloody long time ago but still have vivid memories:
--- icy water. We tore down to the water's edge in our boardies first day & rapidly retreated to the EH station wagon to get our wetties.
--- 4 breaks, Caves, Castles, Cuns & Cactus. The latter 3 were a bit congested, even in those days (wasn't it Alby Falzon who made Cactus famous with the 1972 "Morning of the earth" movie?). We paddled out to Caves, long way out, no leg ropes, pretty scary, got nailed on one take-off & swam what seemed like about 500m to retrieve my shortboard, waiting for Mr Chompy to have a nibble, but nothing happened. Caves would probably be good for sups.
--- had some good waves, but being summer the seabreeze was coming in really early. On our 4th day there we got up at dawn to be greeted by mushy onshore slop. Nothing to do except smoke locoweed & check out the spinifex, so we bade it good bye & headed to Esperance.

As Goatman say's, go Streaky, Indicators is an awsome wave, real heart in your mouth stuff. Probably an even better wave for SUP's is Indicators (just to the right) of goatman's snap. This wave is a looong left with a great take off.

Depends on what you can do? There is plenty of work for nurses (swine flu). The distance is about 5000 kilometres if you count Geraldton to Perth then up the coast of NSW
