Did a little self piercing yesterday morning on the reef. Strangely not nearly as bad as it looks! Bled for a while but kept surfing and it just kinda ached, managed to pull out a couple of the big ones under my foot and still do the afternoon down-winder.

One of the guys here told me about a newbie surfer girl that got washed where I did it, she got rolled over and over on the little area which is basically a sea urchin garden. Ended up with hundreds and hundreds of spines all over her body, had to go to hospital because her body just went into an alergic shock reaction.

All because I was trying out a new 8'6 Quad Kazuma 'Shibi" and was silly enough to get one more bottom turn in......

Kazuma boards are so nice, the one I was trying was a little too wide at 30" but is probably going into HiTech as a big guy or first time short board. check out www.kazumasurf.com. If anyone wants more photos of the Shibi I could pop into HiTech and take some.

The Kazuma I got second hand is the Milkman 9'2 x 27 1/2 x 3 3/4 here is a photo of it.

If its anything like PNG sea urchins then stick your foot in a bucket of hot water, hot as you can go without burning yourself

also what is the air/water temperature like on Maui at this time of year? Using a wetsuit or vest or anything?

Didn't pee on it, thought about it but.....

It happens so often over here the locals are very relaxed about it, couple of guys I spoke to said don't worry you won't feel it in a day and they were right, still looks pretty bad but doesn't hurt unless I knock. Would be a different story if they were on the bottom of my foot though.

Lobes it's still boardshorts only, even for the early surf - temperature of both water and air is bloody perfect!

Jonathon,
Looks like you are having a blast!

I'm pretty sure that if you put some duct tape on that area and leave it that it will help to pull the urchins out.

Maybe you should pick up some of those Vibrams Five Fingers if you are going to keep getting that last bottom turn in............

Hey JC, looks like your having fun!

Can you PM me your home phone number as I want to go pick up some of our shaping
gear. Planning on getting started on the 8'8". I'll pop past tomorrow and see if anyone
is home.

The 8'4" is going really well now, made some fin adjustments and it's going great.

When you back?

Good looking water shoe, but at $200 they're not cheap!
