As the title says I'm in the market for a new Naish Mana 10'. I live on the Central Coast but am willing to go to Wollongong, Sydney or Newcastle...or wherever.

Any suggestions? What should I pay if I have cash for board and paddle?

What's the Naish paddle like?

I've got an alloy one from 2007 that I'm planning on putting out in the hard rubbish soon. If someone is planning a pizza oven for their backyard I reckon it could be useful for that - pm me.

Go and see Sam and fellas at wssboards.com.au/

They are in Collaroy on the Northern Beaches and are great to deal with.

I had a look over the 10' and 9'6 on Sunday and they look lovely. Think they retail for $1899 from memory (do not quote me on this though) including cover and grip.

Wind surf& snow would be your best bet think they sponsor this site some where you might get lucky if there are any left i know all mine are sold and most of the next shipment too so be quick if you do find one.

The Naish paddles are a good middle range paddle and the price on the glass carbon is a gem at $299 and my pick if you are after a good cheap paddle

I took a 9'5 Mana demo for a burn at Dee Why in rough chop at 4pm on a shallow low tide with a fresh onshore wind. Being 31" wide it handled a few very bumpy drops well, hook the rail in and it responds. It is easier to turn around quickly if you spot an oncoming set than my starboard 9'8 extremist. I weigh in at 102kg and it is stable enough to paddle in the surf stance when I spotted a frame. I think the volume is similar to my 9'8 starboard extremist so closer to 148lt. I can't wait to take it out in some clean swell in the morning.

Try a few boards out; each board has a unique character, all impressive.

The new Naish paddles are really good.. Very light with a great springy flexing shaft.. also a nice thin shaft diameter.

I think the white are almost as good as the carbon (they have the same shaft) and much cheaper.. The wood was my favorite but they're not as durable.. IMO

Heres my review of the Naish paddle when it came out a few months back

I demoed the new Naish paddle. I really llike the flex in it. It has an ergonomic style handle (which I prefer over the T-bars) and the blade size was pretty good for me (6' 95kg). It has a very faint dihedral which seems to work pretty well as I wasnt getting any wander even after I developed a blister that caused me to loosen my bottom hand off heaps. Downside is its noticeably heavier than the kialoas and werners. Its still very light but you'd probably think twice about racing with it. It also has some cool Naish calligraphy down the shaft which I like.

That's my kind of surfing!!

How did the 9'5" handle standing around waiting for waves?
How much do you weigh?
What size board do you usually ride?
Do you normally ride short boards?

The context of the questions is I am fairly tall, not super heavy, can handle 10-12' boards in any conditions but on all the sub-10' boards I fall off because of the chop while waiting for waves.

Hey Gorgo.. I think you'd love the Mana.. You're welcome to try mine next time we meet up.. The 9'5" would be perfect for you I think.. SHQ will have a demo soon.

They are so easy to balance on it almost feels like cheating..

I agree with DJ. The Mana 9'5" is a great board. I had mine out in head high waves today and had a great time. Only thing I found was that I had the centre fin too far forward. The bottom turns kept skating out. Have set it back now and will take it out again tomorrow. Still prefer the 9'6" but the 9'5" comes into its own when choppy.

Sam and the boys at Wind Surf n Snow at Collaroy helped me out with their last 10' Mana on Saturday morning. Cracked one of the side fins on the shorebreak at the end of my first surf Saturday arvo but that's my fault..:-(

Very happy with board and the service I got...would thoroughly recommend.

Thanks to all who provided tips and to Ted the Kiwi who put me onto Wind Surf n Snow at Collaroy.

Hi all,

any extra feedback on these boards....

Looking at a naish. I'm 85 kg's - surf 80%, cruising sometimes. surf all sorts breaks, but hoping to get a stable board which can nail some heavier surf too.
Have tried short board style , but still want a bit of balance.

Is the 9'6 mana a serious board in sizable surf given it's volume (190lt?!). (comparitive Starboards much lower in the volume) or better to look at 10'6 Nalu tradition longboard shapes .. I do like the idea of a newer wider shapes tho...

any comments appreciated

Swanie - as I think you read in my earlier post (at "Some of us didn't go for a paddle on the Yarra"), I had my first surf on my son's brand new 9'5" on Sunday in head high, and a bit above, waves on Sunday. I took a couple of set waves which had a quite reasonable drop on them and didn't have any problems with the board skating or breaking out, it actually went surprisingly well. I had the fin set back almost, but not quite, as far as it can go.

Gorgo - I don't think you will find the 9'5" hard to handle while waiting for waves. You won't find many more stable boards, and I agree that it is very easy to spin when it's time to line up a wave.

Hammer - I can only comment from the experience of one surf on the board so far, but you can go and see pics of the waves we surfed on Sunday at - www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56194. While most of the pics are of my mate on his 9'6" quad fin Naish, I took a number of waves at least of the same size and the 9'5" handled them well.

I've had my 10' Naish Mana for about a month now. I'm 6' tall and weigh 100kg. Some discoveries:

Shorebreaks tend to be unfriendly to side fins.

Using clear protective tape on the side of the board was a damn good idea.

BIG problem with yawing - fixed with use of 10" Fluid Foils cutaway fin borrowed (permanently now) from my 10' Bic. Now the Mana goes in a straight line, is easier to catch waves and is still really loose.

I have hardly used my longboards since getting the Mana.

Had my first surf where I finished totally dry - I must be getting better!
