Someone stole my laptop & I lost most of my "surf music" collection but if you were taking off on a really "threatening wave" or merely a "long cool & groovy" one anyone got any suggestions? I would like loud slighty discordant highly amped thrash guitar stuff ......what about the rest of yous?
Jack Johnson, Oils (the older the better), Metallica (the older the better), JBT!!! Xavier Rudd!!! A touch of diesel, or even mellencamp on occasions. Classic rock I suppose, blues and roots.
But tomorrow is likely to be something different again, check out "The Break", mentioned in another thread on here.

The early Johnny Cougar track "I Need A Lover" with it's long music lead in is one of my favourite flat water tracks.
I spent too long working in Chatswood (NSW), and one minor benefit was a cool second hand music store, called "Ten Seconds Down", aptly named because it is 10 seconds down from the old train gates (now 30 seconds from the new gates!). NW of the gates....
Anyway, I stumbled accross a CD by "The Surfers", which featured/included Kelly Slater & Rob Macado. It's actually a good little listen. The albumn is called "Songs from the Pipe".
If anyone is interested, PM me, and I can email some sample tunes. Kelly and Rob have enough coin under their belt ! Besides, it's probably hard to get hold of otherwise.
Gizzie,Sprout is a good album it's better ones include,Banderilla by Calexico and rained out,by Tommy Guerrero and for banging Salt the skies by Tortoise , and good old Nirvana, Smells like teen spirit.
If you have an Ipod there is a great function called Genius. Takes all of this thinking away.
Load 10 thousand or more of your favourite songs onto it. Pick one song you like and the genius will based on music type, other user choices etc etc randomly pick another 25 related songs from your collection.
Here's an example: For a flat water training session I want to amp and stay motivated.
I choose: Everlong by the Foo Fighters. (Actually it would normally be something far more heavy but possibly too obscure to make this example)
The songs it chooses can sometimes look random but when you are listening to them have an amazing flow to each other. It's almost like hearing 20 of your favourite songs in a row at someone elses party and thinking how much you like the music.
It chooses for me:
Everlong On Call, Kings of Leon Open your eyes, Snow Patrol Cold Hard Bitch, Jet etc etc
I love this function, it's amazing. Here's to Apple and their global domination!!!
Aaaah, no, that would be Johnny Cougar. It all went down hill once he went for the more formal John. And as for the Mellencamp thing... 'nuff said.
I met John Cougar once in the bar at the Sebel in the Cross while he was touring. He was staying on the first floor. I asked him why he wasn't staying in the penthouse like all the rest of the touring acts did. He said: "Because I like to stay close to the street, man." Based on that I formed a lasting opinion of him and his music.

They actually filmed one of there film clips for that album up on the headland at Collaroy and in the big white house on the corner. I remember seeing it years ago.
