Worried about the chances of scoring a few waves this weekend (heaps of swell pumping in).
But welcoming 250 entrants in Hyundai national surf champs. There's open mens & womens plus various agegroups plus kneeboards & bodyboards. Goat boats have got a goaty thing going on.
But no sups!
However before you start jumping up & down indignantly the sups champs was held recently in port waikato as part of the Hyundai longboard champs. Winner Shane Baxter of Dunedin.

Hi Kagey.....hero going great. For all my talk about outsiders stealing all the weekend waves drove 5 or 6 km along town beach to river mouth with nheaps of waves to be seen & not a board in sight early this morning. Not good quality though.
Then tagged along after a couple of other sups to the outer island where there were solid waves peeling off just like in the movies. One was a starboard drive & the other a stinger & the hero was coping with the grunty takeoffs just fine.
Not another surfer to be seen except us 3 sups
The JL paddle is holding together good so far too.
