Hey all,
After 6 months on my Naish 11.6 I feel the need to move on to a smaller, and definitely LIGHTER sup. I weigh 64kg.

The naish has been a fab board to learn on and I am keeping it, it just cruises so nice.

My second board I hope will help me to improve my surfing ability, and will hopefully turn alot better and be more manageable than the naish.
I have tried Starboard 9.8 x 30 and Starboard 10.5 drive in Bali, and I think I like the 9.8. But I don't know much! Also like the Whopper, it looks so cool in Candy.

Keep in mind I usually paddle about 1km out to the surf on the river. I don't intend surfing huge waves, just fun girly ones.

Cheers Jayne.

At 64kg you can go pretty small 2 of the girls i surf with are on the 9'6 Naish (1 is 52kg and the other about 62kg) both still have plenty of board for ballance but can turn the board well.Other wise I would talk to Boardbumps(Rod )and get one of his customs for your height and weight you wont be disapointed.

Hey Jayne -

even look at the Laguna bay boards - they are a little more performance based - and you can go out to the Shot gun factory and see first hand and talk to Tully.

He has been shaping boards for Noosa conditions for plenty of years.

Yeah, I might just do that - where do I go ?

gotta give the local blokes a go. Do they compare in price and quality and lightweight to the starboards?

Shot Gun Surf which is down Bartlett Street (off Rene Street, Noosaville)next to 10 pin Bowling.

Technology tops!!! Quality & Light weight are better than some of the imported boards. I am sure you can work out a price with Tully - I know all Laguna Bay boards (performance) come without deck grip so just keep that in mind when you are up there talking with him.

Hey Jayne,

I reckon you might be able to go for something smaller (under 9'6"). If you're keeping the big board for flatwater cruising then you can go for a pure surfing board, and the smaller and lighter it is, the easier it will be to turn and manoeuver and the more fun you will have.

I got a Naish 9'3" (after spending a couple of months on the 10'6") and I love how loose it is in the surf and how easy it is to turn. At almost 80kg it floats me fine so you should have no trouble at your weight.

I think the Naish 9'3" is currently sold out but if you're looking to get a production board, the PSH rippers would also be worth looking at.

Cheers,
Alison

(ps. If you want to give the 9'3" a try, send me a PM, I work on the sunny coast during the week and head out for a surf early most mornings).

Before you buy anything go and talk to Tully at Laguna Bay Longboards. They make amazing boards and a custom board will set you back less than most imported production boards. I am sure he will have boards you can try and if you are ever on the goldy let me know and you can try mine.

A big thanks to Ali Cat who very kindly allowed me to have a go at her very very nice Naish 9.3 this morning at cotton tree.

While Ali had a surf on my Naish 11.6 supertanker , I wobbled about for 5 minutes on the 9.3 before finding my legs, and eventually catching a few waves. I cant believe these small boards are so amazing ! Just one or two paddles and away you go on the wave ! The 11.6 takes 5 paddles before it starts moving forward, its just a whole different ball game.

Thanks so much Ali for the opportunity ! Now its shopping time!
