I'm currently sorting out what to do about my next board purchase, which means I have to share the wifes 9'8 element. Personally I think the standard issue fins are crap. Has anyone done some experimenting and come up with a good combo.

Going on what I've read I'm leaning towards using a 7" dolphin for the center and the G-XQ for the sides, as they are smallest with 80/20 foil.

Any experiences or info would be appreciated.

Cheers Sam

hi, i,ve just come in from a surf. i'm in the process of trying to get it right. on my 8 10 i,m using mr side fins and 7 inch futures performance.not everyones cup of tea. i like bigger side fins because i can get move carve action happening. anyway , i changed the centre fin position 4 times. to far back and it paddled badly and couldn't kick turn well, also had trouble kicking of the wave and paddling off. too far forward and the drive part wasn't happening. i think i've zero-ed in on the spot now.it just takes some time. i think there are 3 elements to consider - paddling, handling and surfing. so a board you might try could be a dud if its not setup to your own personal tastes
cheers

WTF?? Did not quite follow that Lacey.

Don't bother with 80/20 foil; flat or vector would be better.

As I said on the phone the other night the weird thing about the 9 8 is that the same fin options that rip on my PSH (FG7 sides and 6.5 centre) feels really bad. The larger side fins seemed to create a lot of drag. The big single seems better.

I would recommend a good 7 to 8 inch single and good small side fins.

Something like this:

umm, i mean it takes time to get a fin set up right. even if you use the same fins on the same board as everyone else, you still have to contend with where to put the centre fin.

Hey Hilly it's not that I didn't listen to what you said, I'm trying to get a general consecus and narrow it down to a few options for different conditions.

The single you put up is what I've already picked out, they look the goods, it's more about the sides, and yes the G-XQ are the smallest but have foil which looks like the only difference to the G-X pictured. I thought the 80/20 foil could have benefits for SUP, unlike kite or tow board's which have other influences such as kite and jetski.

I checked out what you said about the amount of toe in, seems very excessive compared to others. They must have their reasons but I can't think why.

Cheers again

PS tweaked my back today so I'll take a rain check on demoing the PSH for a few weeks, will be in touch to organise a sesh soon though
