Here's my 2 cents worth.

The new sup dvd mentioned on another thread ..( www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31719 ).. says that the leash should be at least as long as the board.

So if your board is about 9' long it should be ok.. ..It may also depend on if you like to nose ride.

Also you have the choice of ankle or knee position..The knee position type may need to be slightly longer and it help stop tripping on it..but it is not good if you like to kneel down paddle sometimes.

I also remember reading something about a new sup leash that's half straight and half coiled with the straight section dragging in the water and keeping tension on the rest...That sounds like a good idea.

Otherwise if you ride anything bigger, a 9' leash does not take long to stretch to 10'+ after a few sessions in 4foot swell.

Hey guys, new to the forum but hopefully can shed some light...
You want 9-10' leash for sure so you can work the length of the board and not get knocked on the head when it comes back at you. A few feet shorter than the board is OK as long as you dont hang 10 too often! Most importantly you need 6-9mm cord so it can handle the pull of a SUP board. Creatures and DAKINE all make good leashes though I am not sure wether DAKINE have stock as yet. Ankle seems to be the preferance as it does not get caught up in the paddle as easily.
