What are the most important design features, length, width, nose & tail rocker, light weight, deck scoop to reduce centre of gravity & increase power to blade, foot steering?

We all know about the paddler Jodi, the guy asked a design question to which the answer is the most important features would be length followed closely by rocker and their relation to the boards intended use and conditions......

You can't go past the penetrator - it's also locally made. Good time to buy one too, with Rudd's $900 handout coming your way soon.

How good is Noosa even on a shhhit
day! I am going to retire there! I don't
think the 900 will cover the krudd board

I wondered about the ethos of adding music, well at least they keep us honest and safe.

It's a very personal thing and there's lots of different ideas coming out right now but it depends on.. your weight.. your ability.. and the conditions that you want to use it for.

There are a lot of good local products out there. The guys are all pushing development along at a rapid pace. I can't speak for the other brands (as I don't have much experience on them) but Dale Chapmans boards are getting better by rhe day. The improvements have been exponential. We are experimenting with new things all of the time and his DC16 model is looking pretty hot at the moment. He has a new DC12 coming out, that I saw in the factory yesterday, which looks pretty good.

Whatever you buy try and support the locals as they are the ones supporting us with all of their R&D

I'll be giving the 12-6 a test ride this arvo , this gives a great insight in Dales total dedication to his product , he has glassed up a protype type and if all goes well will make another one out of carbon for me.That is serious R&D.

Hey Dean.. If you're going to make yourself a down-winding board I would recommend something like this.

www.standuppaddlesurf.net/2009/03/05/new-f-14-sic-stand-up-paddle-sup-race-board/

There's lots of pics even a vid showing deck/rail/rocker and bottom shape.

I had a slalom board made for me once with the exact same bottom shape and it went like a rocket.

Let us know how you go and what you decide on.

Thanks for the link David, good design never dies, I shaped many slalom boards with similar bottoms to the F-14, & yes they do fly.
I am more inclined to make something more surf orientated, I'm not really sold on the displacement hulls yet. I may go 12' to 14' or so by 26" & then it can be used as a gun. Plus with the very short wave period in the bay the shorter length may be better.
Check this Kayak I made a while ago, a displacement hull, quite fast, it was good at down winders, but it had control problems. Notice the construction, this can be applied to SUP, I used to make many sailboards this way, very light & stiff, 7kg for a 10' slalom.
