I found an article stating that SUPSA on the Gold Coast was the first SUP club in Australia. Just wondering if anyone in the forum can shed some light on whether this is true or which club may have started first?

The Sydney Paddle Surfing Club was a registered entity on 4 June 2009 with our first event on 9 August 2009.

We have just started our third season (13th comp) have haven't had to cancel or postpone an event yet.

Why would the original post attract red thumbs ... someone evidently wants to make a point.

Wow, that must have been early 2007 or Guy and Co. were meeting and surfing with the group before actual incorporation of the club.

I remember members of the club having a surf at the Alley very early '07 if not late '06 and spewing because my new SUP was not ready yet, I was on a Mal pretending..... There was at least 6 people which at that point was a real spectacle.

I remember, Dale, Jacko, Dan McDonald, Ryan Taylor, Guy, Mick Dibetta in the water that day. I was hooked and I hadn't even started yet.

I got a custom DMS 10'er and people were saying it was so small...... How times have changed.

P.S I still haven't actually joined the club. One day, one day.......

Thanks for the info so far guy's! It's interesting that only a few of the names mentioned on the SUPSA list of originals seem to be not among the current members or maybe I've never met them. CMC 4 years of being a gunner, I'm sure you know what members for clubs do for their sport. But I'm sure your a busy guy we might see you there next year.

Yep mate, that's it. I know it's slack but 1 other and much more time consuming club membership, 2 industry committees, 1 distance course, 1 full time job and 1 family mean it's hard to find time for a SUP club. I have helped out before, even got a t- shirt. Great crew, enjoy the company. When I find time I will join, I'd love to get my butt kicked in a few heats.

Too right Casso, I reckon we would give any of em a run for their money - racing and surfing!!

I wonder how many clubs get 34 people just for the surfing comp alone

Hard to argue that goatman ! The SPSC certainly has some quality amongst it's ranks.

The Cronulla Sutherland SUP Club was formed in January this year so it's certainly not the oldest, and by the sounds of it not the newest either.

Would love to see it happen. Sunshine Coast will have it when ever you like to come up.

I hear there is a bit of interest in the Coast of Origin Concept in NSW. Would love to see it take off as it ranks clubs as well as regions and if it went State of Origin it would show club strength right through to nationals.

Goatman, we may not quiet get the numbers you get but don't see the issue as a podium has only places for 3.
