hey 62 mac this has turned out to be really good topic. really good to read all the stories.all this talk about how good suping is for shortboarding will probably have every back on them when the weather breaks on the goldie.i remember watching a guy suping on a back beach, he was pretty good. anyway he disappeared and came back out on his shortie and preceded to rip the place apart.its got me thinking about a cross competition for those that like comps.imagine guys and gals having to change over from sup to shortie and back again i would watch that. it might help relationships between everyone in the lineups
cheers

Gee glad its turned out to be a good topic Lacey, unlike my SHAME post when I first joined the forum [}:)] Did it stir up the pot [}:)] Good idea with the duel surfing aspect, only I haven't ridden a shortie for the past 20 years bring on the longboards

hey, why don't you have a crack at it again. you might be surprised!

Not going there again, once bitten twice shy and still ducking for cover

Similar to Windy.

Jumped on a SUP late last year and was hooked, bought an 11'4", and recently moved onto a 9'6".

That's a huge step down in length aus301,how did you find the transition?

mac

Have to admit it is taking some time, but I am doing better than I expected. My wave count is probably down a little, but doing so much more on each one. Took a great late drop on a wave on the sunny coast last week and then lent into a nice bottom turn, I would have been chewing sand on the 11'4". Certainly very happy I made the switch.

Hey guy's, i wish i had a prone surfing background ever since i went to the Gold Coast with my parent's when i was 9 i've had a facination with surfing and because of that first experience i keep heading back up there for a holiday every few years. For those that don't know i live about 3 and a half hours from any surf, and in my late teen's i used to make regular trip's down south to (dare i say) bodyboard. A few year's ago i saw some footage of Kitesurfing and thought that would be a great way to get on the water around here since the area is very tidal and shallow for a fair disatnce. I enjoyed it but got enoyed waiting for the right conditions all the time, and the setting up
In about late 2006 i spotted this forum- Stand up paddle surfing- and realised that this was something i could do what ever the conditions. I've had my board since jan '07' and although i haven't managed to get in the surf yet apart form some windy chop and tug boat wakes and the arrival of a couple of rugrats, i've planned a family holiday at the end of the year when i have 7 week's long service leave and plan to get smashed by some wave action as well as meeting some fellow SUP breezers from down my way.

STOKED STILL

Fantastic thread fellas.
Surfed since mid teens on SW Coast.
Moved inland (about as far from the sea as we can get up here) so switched to MTB/Snowboard.
Lack of waves on a regular basis made me very rusty which was no fun when I hit the beach.
Found this forum purely by chance.
Bought the Mothership (SB 12'2") for flat/wave/sail all rounder.
Got hooked on spending time on water irrespective of the conditions.
Got the kids hooked.
Blissful poverty followed!!
Love reading this forum and watching Cubby Casso Broccoli movies over breakfast.

Yep cool topic, kinda feels like we are sitting in a circle of chairs in a hall somewhere.......My name is Revvin and I am going to come out and admit it....I started on a lid. I was in my early teens and didnt know any better.

One of the few times I am glad I gave in to peer pressure, by my mid teens my mates had convinced me to get a shortboard, saved up my hard earned paper round money and got a 6'10" Kym Thompson Watercooled Thruster... (still in the shed) and was eventually able to ride it. Late high school was VCE, part time jobs, parties and girls and did very little surfing.

After high school was 2 or 3 part time jobs, tertiary study, more parties, a domineering girl friend and even less surfing.

Once into full time work I moved into a house on the coast with my big bro and had an understanding girl friend (now wife who also surfs), by this time was too unfit and lazy to ride a shorty, got a single fin log and found the stoke again. Got a couple of modern mals now aswell.

I had seen the guy I get most of my surf gear from, Murf, riding his 11' NSP as a standup then his bonga, and about Jan last year he said I reckon you'll like this stand up thing Kev, I gave it a go and havent been on any of my mals since Easter Sunday 2008.

Had a few months out of the water since then due to my second son being born and a leg injury, but back with a vengeance now and starting to look for my second SUP.
