The 24hr QLD flood relief paddle is taking place this weekend. Jacko will be trying to paddle the whole 24hrs by himself. This leads us to a very interesting question:

Just who does hold the current unofficial record for the longest distance covered on a SUP?

Once we know the answer to this Jacko will have something to aim for. Let's see what we can dig up between us before Saturday.

Let's work it out in km as there are too many variations of the "mile".

It's not 24 hrs but a start, a few of us have completed the Hawkesbury classic on a SUP, distance is 111kms.
Jacko will smash that distance but at least that's a distance to start with?
There's that 24hr team event in Canberra, not sure what total distance they ended with?

I'm pretty sure the current world record is held by Paddy O'Lachlan (from Ireland) who did it in 24 hours.

Jacko & The Goldie Crew, get in touch with that Guinness Guy who was supervising the AFL Footy Show World Records. They might give you the heads up on what you need to prove to get into "The Fat Record Book"!!

85 miles x about 1.6 = roughly 136km in 20 hours, or average speed of 6.8km/hr. Assume 1hr of breaks/rest stops, refueling, etc.... 136km in 19 hours is a touch over 7km/hr, sustained speed. Sounds reasonable for a Super Human !! I know I can do 7km/hr+ with some comfort.... but not for 19hrs++!!!

85NM in 19 hours. Or 157.5km in 19 hours paddled, is 8.3km/hr, sustained.... We will wait and see!

Yes, it looks to me like this refers to 85 land miles (or 136km). This equates to an average pace of close to 7km/hr which is a very good effort for flat water. It would be very hard to do a pace of around 8km/hr (which is what 85 nautical miles would equate to) for that long.

My guess is that this paddle was 136km long, which is what Jacko has to aim to better. Unless we find a paddler that went further than this in 24hrs, that it.

If Jacko can achieve an average pace of 6km/hr he would reach 144km. I believe that he can do this so let's get out there and support him.
