Yup, it's pretty traumatic already for me even though its a few weeks before I fly over to Melbourne for an internship. I was looking to get some information on SUP shops in the Melbourne/Victoria area where I could rent some gear so I can continue working on my SUP abilities and to get a session in before heading out to my internship in the AM. Or after the work is done...though I'm thinking the morning session might work out better.

I've only SUP'd for about a month or so, but it is pretty addicting (and a pretty good stress reliever when it comes to finals too) and I'd like to be able to continue to do so while in Melbourne from July to August. (I'd like to try to get out to surf too, but this is the SUP forum)

The other question is whether it is cheaper to just fly with it (using Quantas) to AUS or just renting one for those six weeks.

The 2 shops in Melbourne are (in alphabetical order):

- RPS The Board Store (+613) 9525 6475
- SHQ Boardsports (+613) 9598 2867

They both have demo boards available and I'm sure you could organise a deal for long term rental while you're here.
It might be cheaper to fly yours out here but I wouldn't know. Might be worth contacting the stores to see what
sort of deal they could do for you.

They both have new surfboards in stock as well but not sure about demo/hire.

July & August are the two equally coldest months in Melbourne !!

For the surf, you'll be wanting at least a 3/2 sealed steamer, and probably booties (and a car to get out of Melbourne).

For flat water, if you don't fall in, you'll survive with thermals, plus boardies and T over.

(PS - you have to admit, boardies over thermals is a must !! But boardies over a wettie stirs some debate !! See other posts! )

Hey glakesglider, if your board is about 9' you should have no problem bringing it, depends how much other stuff you are bringing though, check with Qantas on the total allowance. Bnaccas is right about demo/rental gear and if you let us know on the forum when you are here and when you can paddle I'm sure some offers for borrowing gear/coming along on paddles with the locals will come up.

I've been so well looked after by the crew on Maui I feel like I owe something back - karma!
