I'm obviously missing the SUP competition gene. I don't want to rain on someone elses parade but first of all long distance racing. The rules seem to define the sport ie the "can't do's" outnumber the "can do's". Can't Kneel ,can't double paddle, cant paddle a certain length boat, no catamarans .Aren't we getting more and more esoteric about our definitions for the sake of getting our own little sport. It reminds me of those sports in the olympics like Shooting, Prone,25 meter, ladies, air rifle, division B. For **** sake isn't flat water racing just stand up kayaking after all. I recon DJ, Lobes,Oliver and all those guys that do down winders in Melbourne are on the right track. Its a social event, sharing something with your mates , Its fun. And OG sup and his mates and family seem to be having great time..... just surfing.......for fun. Competing on an SUP seems incongruous to me . Lets face it just about any other form of craft is faster(,ski's, k1,c1,paddleboard etc) and just about every other form of surfboard surfs better (turns harder, goes quicker,......surfs better!! ). Sorry about this long and deranged post but SUP is for FUN!!!
Hey Logman, some of my mates would no sooner compete as stick their head in an oven. Personally I love lots of things about competing. It makes you really push yourself and therefore improve, you get to check guys better than you and learn from em and it's very social as well.
Hell, I have met a heap of crew already from going to a couple of SUP comps. Not to mention the great p!ss ups you can have afterwards. Looking forward to the Mambo and meeting/drinking with more of the breeze crew
