do you mean craqzy waves south of freo. If so then yes ive surfed it a few times over the past 2 years. When its a solid 4 foot at cott crazies will start to break. I surf it because i live 100m in front of it, otherwise im not sure i would bother. We had a big swell the beginning of spring and it was breaking nearly a km offshore and reforming and rolliing in to shore. Theres a number of sandbanks, the first is about 100metres past the groin, the next about 100 metres behind that. Theoretically you could catch it from the reef markers over 1 km off shore and see if the wave lined up all the way to shore. Long paddle though and i wont tell you how sharky that part of the coast is. I was catching it about 200 metres off shore and getting 2 to 3 reforms to shore. Note it is a very frustrating wave. it breaks every way and never in the same place twice. You take off on a nice right only to get walloped by a wave breaking left. The swell here is funneled in the gap between carnac, the mewstones and rotto It hits the sand bank from at least 3 different directions all at the same time. You will spend most of your time paddling trying to find the rapadly shifting peaks. That said it has the potential on its day of being one of the longest rides in perth.

nar, just thinking about it the other day...

had some great days there many moons ago on the windsurfer on a large winter front, never thought to try on the sup though,, could be ideal for boards like the BIG RED... for all those foam, reform, foam, reform, foam reform sections...

Took the old GSI Kalama out there on a big winters swell about 5 years ago. Nearly got sea sick from bouncing about left/right/forwards/backwards. Paddled out as far as I could and linked up little waves coming in. Just a once off for me but would be fun if you lived close, I used to windsurf it in the eighties on those out of control westerly fronts.

Prefers a big northerly swell as garden island blocks most of the south swell, or a monster south swell big enough to roll around between the tip of garden island and carnac island. The wave itself breaks everywhere and is far enough off the point to pick up any swell that gets past carnac, garden or on a northerly swell rottnest and the mewstones. It needs to be at least 4 foot plus at cott to start breaking properly and best on a south easterly wind. The wind really blows through here so really a windsurfing, kitesurfing spot as opposed to surfing. I live in front of the break and in 2 years its only been really surfable on 4 or 5 occasions. Problem is when its surfable every other break in perth is going off so its a marginal call at best. As for location, you can work it out from google earth. just draw a line down from carnac island. Next monster swell, if i couldnt be arsed to get in the car and drive to somewhere better, I might see you out there.
