doing a number on an old tyronsea firetail - tail[broken off at front of finbox]reshaped tail and glassed, filled center board and several minor dings,leaving mast track recess as carry handle =10ft 8 sup.is there any one out there that can tell me where i can get a fin box,also what size fin ,just planning single fin and only for use on flat water.how far from rear of board.

Where are you pirrad?...I might have a fin box and even a fin that you could have..I'm sure I saw one amongst my junk not long ago.

BTW..How wide is the Tyronsea board?..It sounds like a good idea to get yourself on the water nice and cheap..

As for how far from the end for the fin box..I reckon between 4" and 10" from the tail..about 6" should be fine.

i'am in port pirie south aus,found a couple of surf board builders in adelaide so i'll see what i can come up with. the board is 26inch wide,they were originaly 225ltr but with 400mm off the tail its down a little on that.i suspect it will be fairly stable,better than my 148 ltr techno 2 that i tried and found a little tipsy[i weigh 95kg]

Hey pirrad, i'm from Port Pirie as well, I've got a naish 11'6 if you whant to have a go or just someone else to have a paddle with. Let me know when the board is ready and we can meet for a cruise.

did you buy another paddle [carbon]thats something i'd like to try before i buy,have you still got the orriginal paddle or did you trade it in.

Still got the original naish paddle at the moment, looking at getting a carbon one in august, should be a good birthday present from the missus

Your board is very narrow and will be quite tippy. As you are only using it on flat water I would go for a large fin to make it more stable. Have a look as champcrows fin, it has a lot of area near the tip which makes it resist tipping. You want something like this, or even a bit bigger.
