in hawaii at the moment and need a heads up on a place where my girlfriend can sup. she is a novice and has only ridden a few waves, we went out at waikiki yesterday but it was too crowded for someone learning. we have a car and are prepared to drive to beat the crowds. any ideas?

Try Ala Moana beach park ,it's flat water and once she get's her confidence up then get up real early and go back to waikiki .

never been this time of year but on the North Shore just after the bridge at Haliewa is Puaena Beach Park and it's a great place for learners and experienced paddlers to go. The water is usually clear and it's dead flat on the beach with some fun waves on the point. LOT'S of turtles in the area and it's all reef so there's always something to have a look at. Ali'i beach park is just a short paddle across the harbour entrance if there are some very very early season waves but Puaena point is really fun anyway. The carpark usually has about 3 or 4 vans of Uncle Brian's from Sunset Suratt surf school and he will hire out some good quality boards too. Saw a few waves in the Waimanalo area on the other side of the island which may be better at this time of the year for the SUP's.
Wish I was there.
