Good evening folks.

Had a good mate take his board for a SUP on weekend and forgot to put in breather plug...

Result as I understand it is after about an hour in the water the board felt heavier and rocked from side to side...

(plainly a v silly and embarrassing mistake to make)

Can someone tell me (so I can pass on to my good mate ) best solution to get the water out of the board....

Naturally none of us breezers would ever be stupid enough to leave out the breather screw..

regards frog

Mate a dud valve or breathers can kill a board , but if you look at DTM post on building boards and sealing blanks is just as important , a board can easily suck in water through pin holes. If the board has put on weight , leave in the sun and let it heat up (lay it flat) as the board heats up the water will come out where it came in. Mark with a texta the express points.

Best way to get water out drill a hole in the nose and tail and stand the board up and put the tail in a bucket and watch comes out , leave it in the sun for a couple of days and you will really be surprised of the amount of water that comes out.

Once the water is out reseal it on the express points (epoxy the driil holes) , super glue is a fast fix for the pin holes, but if it's leaking everywhere reseal the whole board. If your sus on the valuve just replace it.

This is more common on Protect finished boards as they don't really get that extra layer to seal compared to a polished board.

Check your valve's at least annually - don't worry Lacey, you never keep a board that long, I have seen on many windsurfers the o ring on the valve screw perish and let water in.

With removing water, time is critical, the longer the water is in the board the less of it you will get out. I have seen some success with Piro's method, but this usually works well for about the first 70-80% of the water (depending on how much got in) for the rest you may want to try some sort of vacuum arrangement. Or just resign your self to having a slightly heavier board.
