G-Day! I live in Florida USA and am bringing my wife for our honeymoon (after 36 years) to Australia in February. As a long time lurker here, I'm trying to get a feel for out of the way places the wife and I might SUP.

I was in your beautiful country in 1993, and traveled from Woolagong up to the Gold Coast. My buddy and I had a great time and surfed a lot. My favorite stretch of coastline was NSW north of Sydney to Bryron Bay. Cresant Head and Yamba being highlights. We also got a really good day up at Queenscliffe, but I'm sure all of that area is a zoo now.

Uncrowded waist to head high waves is all I want. (not too much to ask!)

Any advise would be greatly appreciated (places to stay and surf) and I'd be happy to Sup with some of you guys (I'll buy the pints after!)

I'd love to meet some of the characters on this board, David John lives too far south I know, but anyone in my area?

I know the Dogman is only doing paid appearances now! Ha HA

Thanks for any help and I won't hog the waves, I swear!

Matt

This will be fun! ;-)

My waves (no complaints here) are further south (west) of DJ's so I'll stay out of it. :-)

Mate, if you want some uncrowded waves in February head south of the Gong. From what you say you're looking for, head to Merimbula, Pambula etc. you'll be pretty happy with what you find for supping purposes.

Thanks for the info, Merimbula area looks great. How's the water temperature in February?

I don't ask for you guys to give up your secret spots ..... just want to make sure I don't paddle out at the wrong spot and piss off the locals!

I'm perfectly happy surfing an off break with happy people. Here in the states "Dogpatch" just south of trestles in San Clemente is a great place to SUP, young rippers, old men and women, kids and dogs surfing with aloha spirit and having FUN.

I guess I can use the book I used 20 years ago, "Mark Warren's Guide to surfing Australia" although it might be a bit dated.

Thanks again for any suggestions and any of your breezers make your way to Florida I'll hook you up!

Matt

G'day Matt, at Merimbula/Pambula and surrounds the water temp peaks around Feb, should be nicely in the low 20's (celsius, not the other kind ).

Fly into Queensland (Brisbane) start on the Gold Coast and work your way South through Northern New South Wales to the mid Coast. Super warm and Sunny time of the year (no wetsuits just bring a hat and sunscreen)

If your looking for a SUP around Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay or Cronulla give the Cronulla Paddleboard Posse club a tingle. We often have overseas visitors join us for a social paddle. Like to show off some of our waterways. See the Clubs forum on seabreeze or their facebook page.
