of doing dishpan turns today

i borrowed a friends 8'8 and had my first surf on a shortsup for a long time.
this board is a custom featuring step rails with hull entry double concave into flat into double concaves to v tail.
i paddled out a bit wobbly after only surfing 12'6 s. also had a surf paddle that felt like some kiddies short paddle
i caught a couple of waves and was over turning way to much, also the centre fin was too far upfor me, so in i went to find a screwdriver.
i changed the fin back and out i went again.
i must say paddling these shorties any distance is a' pita'. i ended prone paddling a bit because i just couldn't be bothered wasting energy when i could get out quicker prone paddling. thats one for the purists

any way, i started getting the feel of it, but i had real trouble keeping the rail in off the top and on cutties, hence the dishpans or i just completely lifted the whole tail out of the water
i think it was a combination of the hull/nose concaves lifting the board and the wide tail on this board and me not surfing one of these shorties for a while.
this board however is a real goer.
barry, whats your call about this board?
i was pretty happy to get a few nice waves and get some performance moves in compared to the queen mary stuff on the 12'6 s,
i'm looking at getting a 'dtm' when i can get the 'folders'. the fine rails and tails and that toxic green colour should be a buzz.
my feelings are if you really want to rip, you got to have the rails and tails refined and the tail pulled in, but it's going to be harder general handling wise.
me personally, don't have an issue with a bit of prone paddling thrown in there

cheers
ps thanks for the lend barry
