I have heard of sightings this far south.

It would be interesting to get confirmation. Last summer I finished a downwinder went to wash my kiting lines when I got the worst sting of my life as I stepped in the foam. Worst pain ever and within ten minutes had pain running through my limbs and in my lymph nodes along with a blinding headache. Never saw what stung me but it was definatly worse than a blue bottle.

Might have been a Morbakka. Local to Moreton Bay and about as far south as Sydney. Can make you feel pretty ordinary from what I've heard . One time I turned up for surf and about 10 minutes before us a young fella had been taken to hospital after being stung by one.

I've heard of them being sighted on the Fraser Coast.

If it was, I'm not even sure who you'd report it to.... anyone know?

we medivac'd a 7yr old from Fraser Island, she wasn't well and it ended up being a irukandji sting, she was later flown to Brisbane and was quite unwell with it, poor kid, until then I'd never heard of them being that far south

there are now signs warning of SW crocs at Fraser Isl. A few years ago they werent there. It doesnt take much of a temp change to mix things up in the ocean...

I have no idea on the jelly fish, but will ask a mate in the know

Arn't Morbakka jelly fish fairly large??
This thing was tiny like a head the size of 50cent coin with thin long tentacles.. Good mate of mine full time surf bum on nth straddie said he has came across a few from time to time over there..

I would of taken a photo but it as fairly choppy and with my inexperience I didn't want to lose the iPhone into the big blue trying to get it out of the hydration pack..

Yeah the big blue ones seem to just hang around Moreton bay for ever in time, yesterday's paddle saw hundreds and hundreds of them,
Luckily they are harmless. They give the board a nudge when the fin hits them though
