there is a rule of thumb for shortboard volume which is weight(kgs) x .35 = litres as a minimum for the average surfer. has anyone worked out a formula for sup's

I have developed a simple rule, mainly for surfing and competant paddlers. The rule is 1.5 times your body weight in litres. Although I think the upper level of volume for wave performance is 150 litres. So if you weigh 90kg you need 90 + 45 = 135litres volume.

Another guide that I use is the 285 rule. 285cm/9'4" is the longest board you can use for wave performance surfing and it is also the shortest you can have for good allround paddling.

By the way Brooko's board is 414 beers, or in Aus speak 17 cases, just a bit more than a couple of nights.

Rod,

This may seem like stupid question, so apologies-how do you work out the volume BEFORE shaping the board?

And is there anywhere we can get costs for one of your boards?

Thanks

Hey Loco. Rod feeds the dimensions into a shaping program(AKU SHAPER?) and it will provide the exact volume of the board and the amount of stubbies in your board...COOL! Almoast went with Rod with my last board, really knowlegable guy. Will be hitting him up when i go shorter
