hey had a guy comment on the stand up thing "old man of the sea" was his description ...... i laughed it off and thought later man this sport can be tough on your body and if you don't keep in shape you could be the dead man of the sea.....anyone else get this stupid mis conception that big board means old man?

The origins go quite a way back to the hollow timber boards.... not sure if the comments were along those lines of reference.... ???

I find a retort along the lined of - "that would make you the f wit of the sea" works well in situations like that.....

I am worried now that I may be old,
One of my boards is a hollow timber 11'9.

I copped a lot of crap from my mates when i first started about giving up on surfing and resorting to riding one of those things.

It was so much fun though I didnt really care.

Fast forward a few years and I am fitter than I have been for years and it has lead me down a completely new path of ocean racing and enjoyment that I never even knew existed before. I started because I felt old, now I feel much younger than before and my regular surfing is better as a result.

Hey CMC
I agree with all that, now that I feel ten years younger after 12 months of SUP i wish I was actually 10 years younger.
Cheers Scott

yeh you have to love the fitness this requires and what it does for you...my wife even thinks the six pack is almost visible again with the right equipment :)

i know some pretty fit guys that would be shaking after 2 or 3 solid hours of sup....
