Thinking of getting a surfboard , havent done heaps of prone surfing but want to get into a short board. What should i look for im 6,1 and around 88kg want something that goes good in most conditions an allrounder.

Hard to believe this is a serious question.....isn't there a short board forum somewhere on the breeze?
Maybe just whack 3 or 4 foot off one of your sups?

I'd recommend a fish, minimal, egg, or other wide nose and tail designs, with a confortable volume and width, or a not too extreme mini-simmons (more than 6'6"). Try to have some rocker, not too flat, for tolerance to mistakes. Or the "big guy" model of many brands.

As a SUPer, you will have a lot of power in your turns, much more than a normal prone surfer has at your surfing level, so you will have no problems handling wide tailed boards, but they will be immensely fun to ride.

In traditional designs, I had once a McTavish "Carver" in 7'2" that was a total blast:

The 2 set of front boxes were to move the front fins forward in small waves, a nice feature.

An exemple of a good minimal design (my yellow board: 7'2", with a pulled in tail to handle power)

I'm 95% sup but earlier this year grabbed a 7 foot 7S super fish 3 for those dumpy shore break days or when it's too crowded for sup...it's around 40 litres and is nice and easy to paddle and I can just about duck dive it...I also have a 6.2 clayton trickster at around 30 litres and I'm slowly trying to come down to that, I'm finding it tricky tho not having 100 litres under me

Think it would be a kneeboard for me being a knee boarder from way back....but you see people bouncing around quite happily on rubber surf mats also :)

Andrew it will be hard first up.

I grow up on shorties but when I was going back too after surf sups I just couldn't even get my head around how small they are. I had lost my touch completely in what I liked or what felt good.

funny . now I can't get my head around surf sups now.

mate I reckon some kind of midlength first. 7 to 8 foot and go from there.

it would be good if you could duck dive it too.

mate hit me up when you find something.

ps a longboard first would be a better idea first imo

cheers

Gotta salute the tea tree, I'v been back on my prone boards lately, especially when the hot weather northerlies come round this time of year messing the surf up and makin it just a pain tryin to balance in chop standing on a sup for long periods of time, can't go wrong with a Mctavish, maybe a Bobsled model, I have a custom and have a ball from beach break close outs to solid set walls ?? plus I use a a couple performance longboards for more traditional surfin fun.

Maybe something like the hypto krypto, my son has a 5'6" which I thought he has Buckley's at riding (he is 6'1") but even I could ride it at 83kg and 53yrs age. Mind you it just about ruined me for the rest of the day. So a bigger one could be the go. Actually I reckon a blown up version in a sup size say 8' would be good.

I'm 6'4' and 90kg and running a board similar to the one at this link at 7'8" length and 3" thick which I find is a pretty much all conditions board for me.

www.surfline.co.nz/surfboards/mid-length/ap3/

Jumped on it a wee while back after a prolonged period of just SUP surfing on a 10' board.

Lordly it was amazing how much more I could throw it around. Was a total joy to "re-discover" surfing!

Might be a bit hard for you wallabies to obtain but similar to the above recommendations anyways!

Seriously, for a start I would go an 8' longboard/mal. A good one will go in anything from dribble to overhead. Short enough to handle and long enough to paddle. Easy to move on when you want to go to something more progressive. Win - Win!
