just thought I'd share this with you all .

last friday after many days of flat water preparation (after a unpleasant first encounter with the surf) i went back to the beach surf for attempt number 2

.
now i didn't really pick the best of days, collaroy for the most was a bit messy 2ft , some back wash with a stiff onshore wich could only help later on.
it tested my balance big time on a 11.6 laird 29" wide remember i'm a beginner so i spent a far bit of time in the water which was cool but it was starting to fatigue me a bit , and i noticed that turns easily done on flat water were now near impossible this is were the onshore helped ANYHOW as i started to paddle out thru to the back for a 10th time is see in front of me a grey shark fin submerging in a sharp twist like it was snapping at some fish or something

!
i cant believe i didnt swear out aloud but man you should of seen me exicute a near perfect pivot turn and paddle back to shore wobbling around like a nut case i was sh-ting myself ! my heart almost burst thru my rashy . i cant think why i was so stupid to go out after all that shark stuff going down lately and also while paddling at narrabeen lagoon only the day before i had noted how many schools of mullet were around i mean like heaps we are talking mega .
well i lived to tell my pathetic shark story which didnt deter me i went out there this morning conditions perfect for me 1-2 ft clean off shore low tide finally caught 2 waves ( in 45 mins) which I'm over the moon about i know its not much but im stoked and cant wait for tomorrow gettin better every day . no sharks but a few big fish flashed past phew !
the vid below is how it should be done
cheers
tom
