Basically, for the quad issue:
If you want to turn tighter, use the thruster setup, If you want to get as much speed as possible and hold to steep walls, quad.
This means if you do not know what to choose, go thruster.
Im going to have to disagree...
A quad defiantly turns tighter due to the fins being further forwards and also generates more drive with more fin base. A thruster will hold for longer through a turn before releasing due to its rear fin and will also draw out your turns a bit more and keep a consistent feel.
It comes down to personal preference and board shape. I personally prefer the X32's as a quad, especially on the coast here. With their wide outline, the quad really helps generate that extra drive in the not so punchy waves.
More import than fin set-up...Make sure your having heaps of fun and making the most of it!
Source: fortunate enough to surf tonnes of different surfboards and SUP shapes with both fin set-up.
