Just got back from 3 weeks in Indo, West Java and Bali. Rod generously sold me his new 8'6" by 30" quad swallow tail as we both weighed 92kg.and I had run out of time for a custom. Very shaky first few surfs but after awhile was able to feel really comfortable on the board. Best waves were a 1km paddle away and although slower than my 11'2" starboard at home the 8'6" cruised there no problems. Went unreal in the surf, super loose and loved the down the line waves. Swell never got big on the trip so was mainly surfing 2-4 ft waves so looking forward to seeing how it goes this winter.
i was waiting to hear how you went,i reckon these boards(surfshapes) would be unreal in indo grunt, got a mate who lives at changou, cant wait to get there with my 9.0
Where abouts in West Java did you go Dee Jay? I used to live in Jakarta! Used to surf Loji and Cimaja all the time (only a 2.5/3hr drive from home!)!
Mate post some pics! Id love to see wht its like atm... havnt been for about a year but moving to Yogya in January! Cant wait to get back and try Loji on the whopper!
Hey Matty Boy, we flew to Jogjakarta and then an 8 hour drive from there....stayed around Padangdaran but there are heaps of waves in each direction. No surf pics unfortunately as most breaks aren't close to shore. Gamble to jump right down in size from my 11'2" payed off though, so much fun and i was as keen to go paddle boarding as surfing which says something of the addictive nature of SUP
Yeah man! Sick as! Yeah Pandangaran is miles upon miles from Pelabuan Ratu where I usually surf in indo! some awsome waves around your area though.. mainly around August it usually lights up! get some solid 6ft-8ft swells! Just off Citonjong you get some wicked rights.... but surf with a mate or two... the rips through there can be really bad on big tides.
Mate stoked you had an awsome trip!
How did you get down from Yogya? Did you bus it? (they're always fun!) getting from Bogor to Pelabuan Ratu always made my hair stick up going down the hills with fully laden trucks coming up the other side! haha...
We had a mini van from Yogja, 2 kids, 2 adults and 4 boards including SUP all inside the van. Was actually a great drive, beautiful scenery and the kids loved the no rules approach in Indo like reclining seats and no seatbelts......when in Rome.. Like you Brooko, stoked on the board and the 8'6" was no hassles on airlines and also small enough to fit inside cars/ vans, a real bonus.
