Hi,
The Boardroom shop has a surfboard that seems to be just what I want.
Does anyone know if the prices on the sticker are firm or do they have some bargaining built in to the price.
This has also been posted in the surfing section but I may get more views here and most of us would also have a surfboard or 5 to complement our sups.
Cheers

IMO.. You can always try.. Even if they don't budge much on the board they might offer a board bag or something else that you need cheaper.

Anthony and Matt (bros) are good blokes and IMHO operate with the best of integrity. There business has been very successful as they offer fair prices to buy boards from you just as they do to sell them, nobody feels ripped off so they always keep coming back.

Their logo is an infinity logo with boards going around and around, it's because they buy and sell the same boards over and over. I never bother taking any boards I have to sell anywhere else.

The sticker price is a pretty good indication of what you will pay but like everything if you are reasonable, maybe buy a bag, leash, wax etc they will look after you. You will be happy and most likely become a regular customer like everyone else that deals with them.

I went there a year or so back, they offered me 200 for a board that was in excellent condition then I did a lap of the store and found browned off dinged repaired boards for 550.
the guy told me my board was not from a well know shaper hence the 200,sure stuart smith would fell good about that one

And did you take it to Stu or cash converters for a comparison?

I don't want to get on your grumpy side Makaha but I think you might be exagurating with tr $550 for old boards thing. They have brand new boards cheaper than that, locally made also.

I have seen many of my own boards for sale after I sold them and if you can get $400 for a big brand almost new board you are doing pretty well at retail. If you sell that same board to them they need to make a profit right? Pay GST etc etc. You can work out what you think is reasonable to sell it to them for. Or take your chances on EBay, pawn brokers etc.

I guarantee you they would have offered you more than you could have got cash price anywhere else including Stuarts own shop just up the road.

P.s most of my boards I have sold to them have been BIG brands and regularly only surfed a few times. My dimensions are also very popular and boards sell easy and they have been on the racks for around $400.

Might sound like I am cheering them on but these guys have always been good to me and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Yeah
I agree. Only had good dealings with them and they were reasonable.
Did a decent trade on a board when I bought my kids a new softie. Prices were competitive IMO.

IMHO the best people to be asking about the sticker price on a board at the boardroom IS THE BOYS AT THE BOARDROOM.
You will find Anthony, Matt & Rick to be the most honest and genuine people you will ever deal with on the goldy.

Thanks for the replies.
The board I am after is second hand.
A while ago, I was offered pittance for a board only to see similar lesser brand boards with a high price tag.
I know it is a business and they have to make money but I always assume that secondhand items are priced higher, then get haggled with, so we are all left with feeling we got a good deal. Unfortunately for shops they also have to pay GST, which cuts their profit margins.

If I had asked this question about a secondhand car dealer would anyone have said the same things?

Cheers

I would have, it's the same principles. If you want to see the worst in human nature just watch how they prepare to purchase anything.

I worked selling brand new Toyotas for a short time. I wanted to get T-shirts made saying 'Instant a$$ hole, just add intention to buy motor car'.

Most of the dramas experienced in buying cars is caused by the people buying them. I can tell you this for sure and give you more examples than will fit on this page.

Agree with CMC, Billboard and Rustle.

The boardroom is an institution here on the Gold Coast. They offer the right prices for buying second hand boards and sell them at the right prices too. They are all surfers too so not in it just for the $$ - it a lifestyle choice.

They also have a very nice stock of well priced new surfboards, especially from local shapers like DVS, Garrett and others.

I have bought many new and second hand boards from them over the years. I don't negotiate prices with them as am very happy that their prices are fair and am happy to support them.

I to have bought and sold boards, fins , leggies and covers from the Matt and Anthony at the Boardroom for many years.

They are surfers, own the shop and also occasionaly SUP and have their finger on the pulse with the prices, which is probably why they have so many choices of boards.

They offer a fair/realistic price, not an over inflated price which you then have to deal down to a fair price.

A few times they have told me this is all my favoutite board is worth, and to try and sell it privately to get more which I have done.

At the end of the day, do your research and negotiate a price that is suitable to both parties.
Everything is negotiable.
If your not happy, walk away as there is alway another board around the corner

Just coz you are bum buddies with a shaper doesn't mean he is well known.
Cut The Boardroom guys some slack and let them do their job.
By the sounds of it they are doing a sick job.

Hey GR, Stuart is a massive shaper in QLD, he isnt a small backyard shaper. His shop is just down the road from the boardroom, and you often see his boards over here as well.
Sounds like there mite be some bad blood between these shops but I would doubt it. Everyone on the Goldy is very friendly, just ask mac

I wouldn't say there is bad blood at all. Stuey is a good bloke and so are the boys.

The scale is a bit like this. New used JS, DHD, Al Merrick etc in other words brands that everyone knows including internationals which there are heaps of about $400. Local good boards like Stuart, Woodgee, JR etc in the same nick about $350-360. Less GST that's about $315. Offer $200 for it, make about $100 max probably less after the seller squeezes another $20 out of you and the guy buying it from the shop wants his $20-50 cash discount.

Sorry for the sermon but once you've done enough of this stuff you don't need to think too much about it anymore.

I must be lucky. My local surf shop on the Sunny coast lets me consign boards and take a $50 flat fee.
Most of my boards will be lucky to last a week or two.
Fastest sale I've had was getting a call my board was sold as I pulled in to my driveway 15 mins later.
Does the board room do consignment? If the board doesn't sell at your nominated price then You know you're trying to get too much.
Also used Ebay a lot.
My last choice is trading boards in as I know the shops don't want to pay what I want.
If you're looking for a DVS full carbon fibre 6'6" weiner with a unique 2+1 set up with full versa traction which you'd swear is new then I've got the board for you. Ha ha!

Hi Greenroom,

to flip the coin....ask a bunch of Shortboarders who DC is and see the response. I would bet that Stu be better known in the main stream Suf community than DC...but thats not the point of this thread a shaper Vs a shaper. Makaha's point was he felt BS'd as he knew better than what was told. I have had a Good experience there(boardroom) and only heard good things, but I dont dismiss Makaha's comments either, tis a business after all and the number 1 thing is to put $$$ in the pocket.

Didn't think the Boardroom sold mass produced boards SUP or otherwise?
Aren't they focused more on hand shaped (ie Dick Van Straalen) and locally made GC boards?
Just asking as I've only had a quick look once and there's not too many surfshops not selling mass-produced boards these days.
