Long before Quiksilver, pro surfers, sups, escort boats, media coverage. The molokai channel was crossed by several of oahu'lifeguards. Theytook their boards over by plane and did the crossing, old school no escort boats. Archie Kalepa was the first one to cross it on a sup. The next year only had sup 5 teams. The the sup division grew greatly after that. Hopefully in years to come the race can go back to its old school roots. Paddle the channel and party after forget about the media and claims.
