Had to retire for health reasons. SUP has been great for maintaining reasonable fitness. It came along at just the right time for me.

Ummm.......I've been working in Local Government for 13 years now so as to avoid shift work, and just do a basic 35 hour week / 9 day fortnight with 'flex time' so I can choose my core hours and take a 'flex' day based on needs at home or the surf forecast.

Best thing I ever did leaving the high pressure environment for a laid back style as I can surf the early and not start until 9.30am or finish up at 3.30pm and have the evening free if required for home or surf.

I supervise a team of Development Compliance & Environmental Compliance Officers at Wollongong Council and also undertake field work so as to not spend to much time in the office and be on the coast most of the time either in the water or not far from it.

(IE: Development Consent Breaches, Building Regs, Swimming Pool Compliance, Pollution Incidents, Environmental Issues, Land Clearing, Tree Removal etc).

I remember my Mum laughing at me when I told her I was throwing it in for a 'fun' job that runs parallel with my surfin' life - she told me it'd never happen and to knuckle down and wake up to myself......I never want to prove her wrong but I think I achieved what I set out to do.

I've always got a camera with me and most days snap some images from around the region and either pass them onto the surfers I shoot or for a few days, posted them here before it upset a couple angry ants.

Work for Channel 9 selling airtime, so any of you lucky enough to be home during the day get to see most of my handywork.

Good flexibility as I can plan "meetings with clients" on the other side of the city if things are looking good in the water.

IT person specialising in mapping and aerial photography. Currently at liberty because my contract expired and I haven't thought about getting another one. No kids.

More importantly, I decided long ago that things that I want, or want to do, that give me pleasure and are constructive (ie. have a positive benefit on my health, intellect and state of mind) are important and I should do it now.

Relief Teacher for 2010......so if the swell is up in the morning and I want the day off I can have it. Or just work a half day and still finish at 3.30........then go kiting.

2010 is going to be a good year.

SUP toys were paid for by a healthy advance courtesy of the publisher of a book I wrote last year.

This year I return to my regular gig - producing documentary film/tv... and also being the Australian division team leader/MD for the company, which means I can set my hours around an early morning SUP.

I send the missus out to work while I look for land & house packages around our local beaches, very time consuming.

It's a must that I get to the beach early each day so I don't miss out on a bargains.

Live on a beach on koh Lanta in Thailand and teach SUP to euro's and anyone who comes along to learn. Wish more people from the northern hemisphere knew about it and would get off the beach chair and come out for a paddle.
The windsurf lessons do ok.

Tax Lawyer for 4 years now, really enjoy the work I do but......downside is 10-12 hour days and expected to work at least one day on weekends.

SUP gives me those little nuggets of joy in a otherwise work filled life.

cheers Reagan

There are heaps of resorts near the beach in Vietnam that would benefit from having SUP boards as well. Considering it's flat almost 6 months out of the year I'm not sure why they haven't clued up to it yet.
Also why not teach windsurfing as well? Sup with no wind then back it up with kite and windsurfing?

Hi all
i work as a cloud seeding pilot, currently spend part of the year in Saudi Arabia, flying King Airs and C-90. This is all done so i can immerse myself in ocean activities for the rest of the year, with a heavy emphasis on SUPing which i absolutely love, thanks again dad for opening my eyes to something other than short boarding!!
