I work for a multinational advertising agency and develop websites, microsites and the odd iphone application for mainly big companies. It's a 9-5 job, but this year I've managed to get the whole of Summer off, which allows me to take a bit of a break and work my other job which is touring with the Big Day Out as a Rider Captain. Where I try to make sure all the artists on tour get their agreed refreshments at each performance.

Work for an investment consulting firm. Interesting over the last couple of years.

When it is busy you get on with it and put the work out, then when it is quiet take time off. Keep an eye on forecast to decide whether to go south and try make at least one weekend a month three / four days.

I always wanted the job of picking out the red M&Ms for difficult pop stars. I assume you get to eat all the other colours.

Recently bought an Indoor Sport Centre, 7 days a week and long hours but get a chance to hit the water early a couple times a week, Waste a lot of time reading Seabreeze instead of working, like now.

Just check out the funny images in general discussion then back to work i promise.

Hi Champ, I worked with your brother years ago and met up with him in the surf a couple of months ago,see him out often. I asked him what you were doing now day's and he told me about the indoor centre.
I promise I wont tell the forum what you did so well not that long ago

mac

Thanks Mac

Thats the best thing about SUP'n you can sneek around and no one notices you especially in the local line up. Have to hit the water for a paddle next time I'm on the Goldie. I'm sure it would beat the bay waves in Port Phillip Bay that we got today (gotta take what you can get).

Work for the State Govt in fisheries conservation, including protecting threatened sharks. Yep, next time you get bitten it's probably my fault.

My wife thinks I should get a real job, but flex time and weekends lets me sup 7 or 8 times a week

In my next life I'm coming back as a tuba playing, bullfighting, prize winning clam breeder (Elbeau you legend!)

A fight on the beach last night at St Kilda (not the one last night in Port Melb where someone got stabbed) between two young guys.

One guy got punched up pretty bad and we had to call the Police and ambulance.

Myself, Phil and DJ went over to the poor guy to assist him until the ambo's arrived and to make sure the fight stopped there and then.

Pretty ugly stuff but not unusual for this time of the year I'm afraid.

Maybe it's the heat that makes people so aggessive.

Environmental scientist working for the local council. Specialty is mosquito and biting midge control but deal with all areas of pest control as well. Also own a small business that hires cardboard boxes for moving. Always looking for more surf time but between work and family I manage about 3 or 4 sessions a week.

The Oz Bureau of Stats now has a vast amount of info to load re a SUP census. We have reminded it of our necessary obsession with time management ... ie stoke time requirements.
Stoke time can cost tho!

This is a most interesting thread - I know who to blame when my boards get damaged, who to buy some TV advertising off, who to contact for a new Psycho 2 wettie this winter, who is doing my tax....the list is endless. It also helps explain why the apparent unemployment rate is so high during the day - as it seems a lot of people are able to SUP / surf during the day thanks to their work options. No wonder the mid-day crowds are growing all the time ! Those job figures due out today should make for some interesting reading!!!

Natural Hazards Economist - I mainly focus my attentions on trying to create incentives for mitigation and looking at the social and economic impacts post disaster. I can never understand whilst we continue to build bad structures in vulnerable areas!! Its very interesting work and allows me to keep my own hours - which means I can stay sane whilst living in the big city. Fingers crossed I will be exiting the city life shortly.........

I'm a Head Hunter/Executive Search Consultant in the Power/Mining/Property space across SE Asia, Australia and NZ. Very interesting job but terrible for work life balance! Winter = no water time in the week as I typically work 8am to 7pm....

I tend to keep quiet on what I do when meeting people at "events" as I often end up becoming a career counsellor!

It was apparently an application for college admission by a Hugh Gallagher. He finished with "and I have spoken with Elvis, but I have never been to college". I believe he was accepted.

Run 2 small companies - one pr company and one that's a web application development company.

Was managing to organise more "board" meetings but now well and truly snowed in and iced up!!
