tried out my new 2nd hand naish 11'6 at lancelin this weekend - paddling and windsurfing..

windsupping - caught a few bombs at mainbreak on the early light wind sesh....v scary, luckily - enough rocker to stop nose catching you gotta get your weight right back, bit tricky with the sail all that way forward.... feels like a TANK with the steering wheel stuck...had more fun at south passage where the wave is more predictable and is a bit fatter in the channel , jumping the close out was a challenge....o

paddling - discovered eddys is a no no for sups well for me anyway. Sthside of eddys was ok though, but lots of falls on the chop...glad i got the big naish!!

paddling around the bay in the early morning glass with 2 dolphins swimming under your board was bliss.

lovin the SUP,, looking forward to my home made carbon paddle now

Ah sounds like the big Naish was the go for you
More freestyle SUPing in the marina sounds the go hahaha
Hope we can sus out the offshore paddle dramas we had with the Marine Safety Nazis Maybe someone here can tell us the safety rules for paddling more than 400m offshore? Are flares, life jackets and an anchor needed? Sounds rediculous if you ask me

Did you get hassled going to the island? I did not when I went. Left from north of the marina maybe they did not see me.
Rules probably same as for a windsurfer do they stop them?
Thurs looks good going out?

hassled on the way back, when we were in the 400m zone

had we been further out he rekons we would have been for a 360 buck fine each, for no type1 life jacket, 4flares and anchor.

wasn't have a bar of the fact, we were on 'surfboards',

or you can go out without the above if you have a safety boat with you.

I see this boat patroling here all the time, especially weekends/public holidays.

doh!

This is a reply I got from the Marine Safety Operations when I emailed them about offshore SUPing

Dear Greenroom

In reply to your query about paddling a surfboard to blank we would advise you as a minimum to wear a P.F.D. type 1 (AS 1512) and to carry a inshore flare kit which consist of 2 hand held red flares and 2 hand held orange smoke flares.

In saying this Department would not encourage anyone to make a trip such as this to blank and return on a surfboard.

If you require any additional information, please contact our Marine Operations Centre on 9431 1000.

Regards M O. Edwards.
