just been looking at paddles and saw the wooden paddle and just wondering how the perform compared to carbon/glass and alloy paddles

they look really nice, but do they perform.

I agree...the wood paddles look nice..real nice.

I've not tried one but I've heard that they are a bit more flexy than carbon and alloy..but flex can be good.

I've also heard that they are not as durable..but then they may be easier to repair..and some can be a little heavy.

One other thing is that they often don't have a nice ergo T piece handle like most carbon paddles do.

I'd love to get one myself one day..There's so many different types out there now.

What type/brand are you looking at?

I use a homemade wooden paddle and I really rate it - but its the only paddle that I've used for SUP so not sure how it compares.

The weights pretty good - bound to be a little heavier than the carbon - but after a few sessions you're not going to notice it any way.

Here's some pics of some nice wooden sup paddles..Some look to good to use..

Also check out some of the handles made for palming rather than gripping.
