Al G said..obct said..This was probably the one he's thinking of. Ford didn't make to many of them and they're as rare at rock'n ors these days.
I'll never forget them because I recall how good they looked all jacked up when I saw them at the Royal Easter show, and a mate of mine seriously was about to buy one back in 73.
www.truckjungle.com/2012/08/18/aussie-classic-xy-falcon-4x4-ute/ Geez, this is ironic,we are talking about these on another forum as well on the same day

Yeah ob,Ford didn't do many because the Army pulled the plug on em,so Ford sold them off, apparently a couple of hundred of the bodies of these set to become 4x4's just sat dormant for years

I knew a bloke who made his own. Out of an XB Wagon! He had an MQ Patrol LWB with a body that you could poke your fist through, and an XB Wagon with a toasted engine and gearbox. Over the space of three weeks in his Caltex at St Ives in Sydney he transplanted the XB wagon body on to the Patrol chassis. Somehow made it through certification and got it registered. Soon after Caltex kicked him out and it became a Star mart, so not sure what happened after that, but it was unique.
Brian at Land Rover Spares in Greenacre did similar with a Holden 1 tonner, but he spliced a Range Rover chassis into it. Best thing about Brian was he had only one leg, used to use a 12 gallon drum to kneel on with his one good leg, or actually lie across the engine bay to work on the Landies....
Can't do any of that any more the Aust Design Rules have all but quashed any legal customising and splicing of cars or bikes for that matter.
