After watching your friends in this - can you please tell me why they do not wear a Gath Helmet? Have there ever been any serious injuries from boardies whacking others? Wonder what the liability would be - especially over there in the States? When you go to the snow these days everyone is wearing helmets - 15 years ago no-one hardly did. Cultural shift.

Ouch. My arm is still sore a fortnight later after one belted me. A head smash could do some serious injury.

They made the kids wear them and one of the younger paddlers in the women main event did.

I dont do those races ted for board damage and the personally danger which to my way I thinking is too high.
I really cant justify the risk of getting hurt and not working.

Besides ive been hit enough just free surfing.

Its dangerous yet a lot think it is fun

someone will get direct hit to the head only a matter of time

Ironically. Competitor numbers are at a all time low in oz.

Pfft...leg ropes are for learners...you don't need them once your good...you just don't fall off and the other experts out there with you know to just get out of the way.

Thanks LL - I hear ya. I always thought that would be the best event to compete in but would think few numbers or some more spaced out markers to separate the good from the bad might be safer. Surprised no one has copped a bashing yet. You definitely need good spatial awareness and a super set of eyes to avoid the carnage and I would imagine a fair bit of luck.
